I'm looking at the Pentax SP in either 10x43 or 10x50, and would like to know the advantages/disadvantages of either.  These will be mainly used for elk/deer hunting in Utah.  Sometimes they will be used for glassing across canyons and open fields, and sometimes for scanning in the treelines.  Any thoughts as to if the extra $$ for the 10x50 is worth it?  Thanks

I would get the 10x43s for the slight savings in size.  I don't know that you would realy notice the slight improvement due to the larger exit pupil.

Using a scope to "glass" , is held by some -not good practice especially by the guy who thinks you are aiming at him. The big problem here is "panning" caused by the lense as you sweep it. It makes the picture looked like it is wrapped around a barrel and photographed with a fish eye camera lense increasing in magnification as the image reaches the center of scope and then diminishing in size again. Burris II scopes used to be really bad at this. It doesn't necessary occur more often when the magnification goes up.

Dale Clifford,

He's asking about binos, not about a rifle scope. I know it happens, but I'd like to think anyone with any common sense would never use a rifle scope to "glass".

Big Whip,

I'd suggest the 10x43's. I live in Utah and a 10x42/43 will do everything you need, plus you get a wider field of view and less weight vs a 10x50.

Thanks guys.  I was hoping there wouldn't be much difference in the two, because now I can put the extra hundred dollars towards the other purchases I'm making.  It's going to be a busy week for my debit card:  Zeiss Conquest scope, Pentax SP binos, and a Leica LRF 900 to boot!  Oh well, who needs money in the bank anyway.

Don't worry, Dale.  I glass with the binos only.
