Just bought a Remington 700 SPS and am looking to mold this into on mean hunting machine. I would like to know what a really good scope would be out to 500yds. I would like to keep the cost under $1,000 if possible. I have looked at Leupold but if not sure if they have what I need for under $1,000. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

swaro z3 3-9 or 4-12 would probably be your best bet under 1k.... for shots out to 500, get the BT.

also, don't forget www.swfa.com, a premier optics retailer sponsors this site, and they have www.thesamplelist.com for bargains on demo's or open box optics, and in most cases, the warantees are intact

Swaro z3, Zeiss Conquest,
I would get a ballistic reticle rather than turret in these two myself.

Testing a Z3 3-10 with the BRH reticle reticle in mils
that would work great for you... Also testing a VX6 2-12 with the LR reticle, that wouldn't mate up well with a 308 but it does mate well with my 280 Ackley running a 300 yard zero. I did some back to back testing yesterday evening into the darkness testing at 250 yards. Frankly, there really wasn't much difference between the two optically. The Z3 might have had slightly better glass, but when I have to go back and forth 20 times trying to find the difference there isn't much. |
