So I guess that brings me back to my original point.  What do you gain other than it will probably cost more to feed it.

But in the end I can't really argue if you just want a new toy, definitely nothing wrong with that.

A 250 gr .338 has to eat up valuable powder space in a .308 case.
Ditto on the 180 .338/.308 comparison. I would err on the side of penetration and aerodynamics with the .308. I don't feel this caliber is a solution to any existing problem.
The .06 case is a far better candidate for a .338 pill. The Win Mag even better.

and i acutally lied out to 400 they are neck and neck, after that the  .338 dies off, speed wise. energy wise the 06 wins for some odd reason, maybe higher bc and sd have something to do with that, im just looking to get into a kimber rifle and this little .338 seemed like an intresting choice, i have several choices to pick from this one just seemed like a step towards my normal mo of weird calibers in the aresenal

Hey guys!.............Pyro just wants something new and exciting to add to his rep-it-too-wa!!...........Though the 338 Federal is an excellent short to medium range round, if one already has a 30 cal, IMO, there is little need for the 338 unless you`re changing the type of rifle and want something different!............My preference even over the 338 Fed. in a Kimber, would be the handier dandier, shorter and sweeter, 20" barreled  Remy Model 7 in the 350 Remy Mag. If one already has a 30 cal., the 350 Remy would be a better addition than the 338!.......More of a caliber seperation there and a better use of money!..........Now that is a real buster for just about anything!!!.........It can also be loaded down too!

i wanna know how he made it left handed, mark sees that and he might have to excuse himself, i dont think kimber makes a left handed rifle, must have used a mirror imagine type affect on the picture, if .338fed isnt the groups favorite which of the calibers in the 84m are? my other choices were .260 and 7-08 if i went to an 8400 25-06 is on my list there.

I say 7mm-08 or .308.  I really like both of those calibers.

if i were to step up to the classic select i could go with a .257 roberts as well, but i still think the .260 or 7-08 is a better performer with better bullet choices for deer

if i buy a .270win or a 25-06 i wouldnt have to buy dies or brass for either my bro in law has a .270 already and my father in law has a 25-06, the 270wsm is a stud but i just cant push myself to buy a .270 anything even a 270wby would take a lot of convincing and possbily crown royal in massive amounts.

...........................I think that your dislike of the 270 is based more on O`Connor`s praise rather than the round itself! Your dislike maybe just a little over stated????!!.........Gotta go!

i dont think so, when you compare the .270's all 3 of them to there 7mm counter parts its clear that the .270 can be out preformed, maybe not a huge difference, the 7wsm is better than the .270wsm plus the 7mm  gets more bullet choices, the same can be said when you compare the 270wby to the 7wby and the .270win compared to the .280 i take the 7mm stuff first across the board. i prefer not to get the kimber 8400 i would like to have the 84m more

Pyro, talk to the new member "Nic K" who works for the Leupold Custom Shop.  I'm sure he can help you with your questions on the gunmetal gray finish on a 1.75-6X32 VXIII.  That's a nice little scope, by the way.

Also.... DUDE -- when are you gonna stop fighting it and go ahead and get a 7mm?  If I didn't already have one, I would get a 7mm-08.  The .260 would be my 2nd choice.
