I AM LOOKING FOR NEW LOADS TO TRY.
Do you have any you can share with me... 24-28" barrel 1:10 or greater... I HAVE A FEW TO SHARE... This is a nice smooth easy shooter without much recoil. 245GR LEHIGH MATCH OR BORE-TECH SEAT TO .804 OAL 3.72 POWDER IS N560 WITH 85 GRAINS YIELDS AROUND 2960 FPS WITH 4765 FT LBS A SUPER SMOOTH SHOOTER I use a 350 yrd Zero for a total of 200" of drop at 1000 giving a nice PBR of +-6" out to 400YRDS giving me a +4@100yrds, +5@2, +3@3, -5@400yrds and close to an even -20@5... Alternate versions of this load were 3.975 with 87.8gr n560. Another version of this load was a shorter 3.800 with 86.0gr both a little more recoil and better long distance but I settled with the above... Another Load is a 162gr AA Carbide .338 with 103gr of n560 @3650 fps with 4650 ft lbs... A load for the wild ones if you PM me... Edited by 338LAPUASLAP - January/21/2011 at 21:29 |

Shot my Savage .338 the other day at 1767 yards (1 mile + 7 yards),
thanks to my new Bushnell fusion 1600 arc range finder (nice to be able
to range that far). 73.9 MOA correction (turrets + mil hold overs).
Note: I'm using the term MOA for IPHY (inch per hundred yrds). Estimated
spread 3.5 feet (preliminary results). Its 0.5″ at 100 yards. Load: 300
gn sierra match king of course, with 86.5 gn of Retumbo. Muzzle
velocity avg. 2648 fps. Nikko Sterling 6-24X 56mm obj scope, which has
63 turret MOAs total but 6 to 7 MIL lengths depending on how you use it.
Using Knights Armament ballistic program(KAC Bullet Flight Military
Version 3.1.0) on my iphone. Temp 99 deg F, 27.5 InHg, angle of shot 3
deg, 15 mph wind at 8 o'clock, Alt, 2400 ft, RH 30%. The farthest I
will be able to sight targets is 2000 yrds based on available scope
adjustments and how much the bullet falls. Next step is measure exact ”
spread at 1000, 1500, 1760, & 2000yrds. Time to go to home depot for
that board, its 4×8′ ply wood usually right?

We've used a 10'x10' metal or wooden frame with a paper target stapled to the frame for quite some time. The solid plywood will tear up pretty quickly.

good idea, Ill try both since where I shoot (high desert) its a little windy. Maybe I can hang card board to metal frame and stabilize with suspension strings. Another good tool I have is my Panasonic video camera that has 70X optical zoom to see and record hillside target strikes. Good to document, I'm going to put some on youtube once I can target out to 2000yrds. My goal just for the hell of it is to target something out to 2706yrds which is the record I believe for the longest confirmed sniper kill (.338 Lapua). Of coarse he did it with a proper scope. I will have to put another 30 or so MOA canting rail if I want to use my Nikko Sterling scope.

The video cam can only be used to see/record bullet strikes that hit dirt at those range distances. Still useful
