Dan Wesson of those two. Or depending on your budget. A Les Baer would be a good choice. Or you could also look for a used Les Baer.

So why 38 Super?

Just always wanted one, i like 9mm caliber and having one that shoots a 147 grain 1200ish would be fun. . I have a 45 1911 may as well try a different caliber.

I looked at several colts today. None of them really got me though

I would love a baer, but $2500ish is to much. I don't want to buy used. Used is often some one elses problem gun they got rid of.

I really want a wilson, but some of them are pushing $4000. Crazy

Win 38 Super +P   FMJ   130 gr  1215 fps 426 ft Lbs

Win 40 S&W JHP  155 gr    1205 fps  500 ft lbs energy

38 Super is Not a path I would choose to go down. Why not go 10mm  at least your should be able to find ammo for it.

Its a heavier bullet, so of course it will have more energy. Those energy numbers mean little anyway especially on a handgun. Plus factory 38 super ammo is loaded weak. Starline makes brass so finding ammo will never be an issue.

I may go 9mm. Just not finding what i want in 38.

You should be able to get a nice Kimber in a 9mm  I saw a used one at West Des Moines Scheels that was bright nickle in a subcompact version that was only made for a short time a couple years ago.  Really nice little 9mm.

There's some kimber tle 2 tfs models on gunbroker for $1000. Threaded barrel suppressor sights. That would give me an excuse to buy a 9mm suppressor too :)

Tanfoglio Witness Elite Stock III is worth a look. I love 1911s, this to me is better. Fits hand great, smooth as silk, just need better sights.

I would try it if you could. Bought a 10mm after the 38...it's like an improved 1911....

So they are da/sa but can be carried cocked and locked? Is the only safety the thumb safety? It doesn't look like a grip safety is there.

CZ75 too.

My daily carry is the STI 9mm I had all kinda problems with about 1.5 years ago. Probably a few thousand rounds down the pipe now and it is smooth and easy shooting.

Since I got the STI running well, the Blackhawk has only been out of the safe a time or 2. I am a 45 guy by history but 15-20 rounds of 9mm +P in one mag is a nice thing.

How about a 1911 in 357Sig? That would exceed 1200 with 147gn and a 5 inch barrel. One of the LGS has a Sig 1911 Nightmare in 357Sig for About $1000.

I wouldn't be concerned about a used Wilson Combat. They will take care of you no matter how many people have owned it. I have a Wilson Combat Classic that I bought used and got it for a steal. Looked like new and never been shot. But I had an issue with it not locking back on an empty mag all the time. Called Wilson and they sent me a prepaid shipping label, arranged to have it picked up and I had it back in either three or four days. My only inconvenience was I had to make a phone call and box it up. They did the rest.

Just found out something about Dan Wesson's. A buddy was looking at one until he found out they only have a 5 year warranty. That was a problem for him.

Energy numbers mean little??

I purchased a Springfield Loaded in 9mm and at some point is going to Wilson Combat for trigger work and a match barrel plus a few other options. That will give me a very nice shooting 1911 in 9mm.

I think his point is that energy numbers are a part of a much bigger whole (not hole, pun would have been intended.). I agree, there is more to stopping than energy, but it is a big part of the conversation.

My meaning was the diff between 425 and 500 especially in a round that is going so slow to have little to no hydrostatic shock, means little. Poking a hole in an organ is the goal with a handgun and 9mms have proven to penetrate just as deep and most other defensive caliber rounds. With a defensive caliber handgun hitting your target where you should is much more important than whether i have a 9 or 40 caliber bullet.

Thats what i meant and i know you all know that as well. If we were talking rifle rounds and shooting big game things are different.

Buddy of mine has a Valor with the black finish. It's a very well made pistol with terrific fit and finish and a superb trigger.
