I have a summer special that I carried a Kimber commander size in for years.  It a decent holster, but I like the holsters with the large leather pad that wraps your hip and then Kydex around the gun better.  They don't move at all the summer special did a bit.

Looks like the executive may be a bit more stable with the larger leather at the bottom

Jeff, do you have a 38 super and or 9mm 1911s?  Are they as reliable as the 45s?

Yes, for them that is the issue. Years ago I was looking at an Ed Brown with it and was told the same thing. The guy at Ed Brown said it bothers some people and some it doesn't.

The Executive has a stabilizer, it does not move, awesome holster. I had a summer special and it too moved.

I have several 1911s in 45 and just one in 9mm. The 9mm was a pain to start, sent it back to STI and they completely rebuilt the gun. Since the rebuild, it has been outstanding, exceedingly mild recoil, 100% reliable, and very accurate. I much prefer the flying ashtray that is a 45 hollowpoint, but having 20 rounds with no reload is a great thing, and bullet design has closed the gap in what a smaller caliber can do.

I don't compete so have never considered a 38 super.

The big issue with 9mm 1911s a few years back was reliable feeding, everyone seems to have figured that out. I would highly recommend my second STI build, the first was as worthless as tits on a bull.

I had some FTF issues with my Springfield Loaded 9mm, but once I switched to Wilson Combat Mags it has been 100% reliable.

My fullsize Kimber is not hard to shoot well at all. I could only imagine what one would be like in a 9mm.

Unless your just dead set on a 1911 when it comes to 38Super, and the 38Super first came in the 1911, I would look at one of the EAA CZ copies in 38Super. You could send it to Cajun Gun Works for one of their many action jobs, and have a wickedly accurate and smooth shooting pistol in the caliber you want.

I went back and read the first post: is this a 38super itch or a 1911 itch?

1911 for sure, but it was a .38 super.  But I am not finding exactly what I want in .38 super.  Most of them have target sights, which I don't want. So then I started considering 9mm as they have a lot more options.  Still looking for either though.

I emailed Dan Wesson and asked about a few custom things.  They will do what ever I want, but it is not cheap to go away from their production offerings.  Just adding an ambidextrous safety will add $250 to 300.

In the 9mm I am really struggling with just getting a Kimber CDP pro in 9mm vs a Dan Wesson.  I have no doubt the Dan Wesson will be the nicer pistol.  But I have had such good luck with the Kimbers I have owned I am struggling with spending more.

Get the Kimber. If it needs some tuning, I am sure there is a good smith in the area.

I got my hands on a Kimber with a bobbed frame.  Wow, I loved it.  It felt way more comfortable in my hand than the standard grip.

Well I bought a Kimber 9mm today.  Aegis 2, full size with alloy frame, got a smoking deal on it.  Darn Wilson mags are $45 each, but gotta get some of those.

Well I got it.  I switched the grips right away as I don't like wood and they were thin grips.  Also the safety has to go, it is a cute little bobbed thingy.  I new that would be the case so I already ordered a ambidextrous one and should have it tomorrow or Thursday.  $60 for a Kimber safety and Dan Wesson wanted $250 to $300 to change one on their guns.  Its a five minute part change.  Crazy.

Hopefully run and shoot it for a work break in a few.

110 rounds down range, no stoppages or malfunctions.  But two of my ultra awesome Wilson Vickers mags don't hold the slide open on the last round.  That is a bit disappointing considering their claims.

But the gun itself is off to a good start.

What the hell is a Vickers Wilson magazine? Why go beyond a 47 magazine which are awesome.

Why improve a thing that doesn't need improving?

Send those back, get the 47d magazines, done.

So...there is that.
Are the vickers the 47d of 9mm?

My experience with non-45 1911s is limited to double stacks, so no wilsons in that; otherwise...

No there is no 47 equivalent in 9mm that i could find. They have the etm and vickers. In 45 there is the 47, the etm, and the vickers. I chose these as i like the base pad better. If they would have have 47 equivalent i would have bought them as well. I love my 47d's. The followers are metal and i bet i can just tweek the slide stop rest on the mag, but will wait and see what wilson says. I sent them an email today.
