Favorite recipe, go!
New to the caliber, have everything I need to reload for it, just want to know what people have used (mix of target and hunting.) I'm leaning toward 129s, they seem to be the best mix of good BC and good velocity. This is for an AR, by the way. |

I've got three 260s but about same thing. I use the 123 amax for short barrel and 140s for longer barrel. I have some of the new 145 eld but haven't loaded yet. IMR4831 has worked very well in 123s...44.5 or so, easily under half inch with best group at .2

With the ar,personally,I would choose the lighter bullets. The 120's seem to run well with powders that work well with a 308. Varget,4831,stuff like that. With the 140's H-4350 is king, but it's also vapor-ware! The new imr powders and rl-16 show promise as well, but I have not tried them yet in my rifle.

RL-17 is my go to powder for the 140, 143 and 147s.

I have lots of Varget and lots of IMR4350, and will probably stick with the 120s, at least in the beginning.
I will run 2 loads: one for hunting and one for LR. All good info, guys, thanks! Barrel length on the new gun is 22", by the way.

As mentioned H4350 is considered the gold standard for 139-147 gr bullets, but is hard to find. RL17, H100V, and Superformance are all good powders for the heavy bullets. You're going to end up in the 39 - 42 gr range with these powders behind the 140's, with maybe a grain or 2 more with Superformance.
For the lighter bullets, go with Varget, IMR 4007SSC, W760/H414, IMR4350. One final note... the word is CreedMOOR not MORE. |

Tag. I have a 6.5 CM AR as well but running a 18" barrel. Running factory ammo for now but so far seems to shoot both the 130 and 140gr bullets equally well. Manufacturers are Prime and Hornady's ELD offerings. Both loads are running around 1" at 100 yards in four shot groups with one flyer always expanding it.
This one was shot with 140gr Hornady ELD Match ammo The Prime ammo with the 130gr bullets didn't do as well, but probably me and not the ammo. Called the shot on the far right. Reloading is next and will have to try the lighter bullets. Plenty of 4350 and RL17 on hand.

What kind of velocities are you seeing from the 18" barrel? I am seriously considering one.

I didn't shoot it across a chrono but based on published results in Rifleshooter, author was getting 2761 fps using 120gr bullets and 2562 fps shooting a 142gr bullet. I'm guessing mid 2600 range.
Here is the article: http://rifleshooter.com/2016/02/6-5-creedmoor-effect-of-barrel-length-on-velocity-cutting-up-a-creedmoor/ Had the same debate. Seekins has a nice SP10 with a 22" barrel but I opted for the shorter version. Reaching out to 1000 yards is very doable. My ranges are inside of 800 yards, so don't think I'm giving up much.

Just bought 3 boxes of Prime to start, will let you know what I think.
Mine is the 22" Seekins, will get a chrono on it after initial setup. If the Prime is Norma brass, their prices are great. |

I would shy away from RL-17. Great speed, but massive pressure swings in my testing on my 22-250. Getting good reports about RL-16 though and being more temp stable.
My 260 rem loved the 130 gr bullets. I was going to suggest trying the prime ammo, but you found it already. I used to shoot Monolithic Munitions, but they closed down. If you can find the H4350, that is a favorite in my 22-250 (80 gr), 260 Rem, and my 6.5-284 with 130s.
