This weekend was d-day for my new caliber choice. I fired my first rounds with fully formed cases.
The one problem I have is that the necks are still not trimmed enough. Should be down to 12,5 thou a side, and I left them at 13. When I take a fired case a bullet will not drop into the case.
How much will this effect grouping etc?
Ok, now the report...
The rifle handles like a dream, no excessive recoil and no signs of pressure.
Chronied the rounds at 3795 ft per second.
At 100m it shoots a ragged hole.
At 200m it shoots 1/4 inch hole.
At 300yds it shoots 1/2MOA or 1,5 inch grouping.
At 200 m it drops 1 inch from 100m zero. Only 2 clicks and I am on the bull.
At 300yds it drops 6 inches. 7 clicks and I am on bull.
What can I say... I am a very happy guy.
I need to shoot a bit more and compete etc to give the final verdict, but so far the most accurate barrel and caliber I have owned.

I cannot load the pics, will try later. Says the web is down. CHRISSS HELLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds really good 8shots what is your load combo? Sounds like you will able to get back into the fight, with a 200m zero it will be even flatter at 300m.

Regards Chris

Chris, at this stage I am loading 51.5gr S365. I think I am going to move up to 52gr. I have loaded length to fit my magazine box. I have not even measured it, just pushed the bullet on the first load till it slid in and then locked the die.
yes, I think even with a 300m zero the gongs should fall, irrespective of distance.

Good old S365 seems to work in a variety of calibres. Just spoke to my Freind he is frustrated due to the time delay on his rifle, was told December but Andre isn't finished. He is having a whole rifle built from scratch, action as well as barrel and stock. Keep us informed it will be good to see how his rifle compares to yours as far as speed and accuracy is concerned.

Regards Chris

8's,  I loaded pictures yesturday, everyone came up with a server error, hit the back button and check and they had uploaded but it did not tell me they had.  Check your file manager and see if it did the same to you.

Chris, I have been back once to the range and found that the grouping has opened up a bit. I did not tinker around or waste bullets as my objective was to get to know the trajectory.
After shooting a 308Win I have a lot to learn !
The bullet hardly drops out to 350m. Well it does, but with a 325m zero 8inch steel drops anywhere between 280 and 350m.

I shot my first comp last Sat and did a lot better then previous shoots. Specially the gong lanes, which has been my nemesis with the 308.

With a 250m zero all the near gongs (200m to 260m) fall, and a 325m zero all the far gongs fall. (280 to 350m) Off course we do not know the distance, so all I guess now is near or far. (4 clicks or 9 clicks on the scope)
One lane I shot 5/5 and the other 3/5 (forgot to allow for wind on first two).

I will have to fiddle a bit with the load to see if the grouping tightens up again.

But definately the right move for field target shooting.
