    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.opticstalk.com/member_profile.asp?PF=633" rel="nofollow">Mike McDonald</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19328<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> September/30/2009 at 07:09<br /><br /><P>Dave,</P><P>Wasn't implying, more like thinking out loud.</P><P>Just went through something similar with an Army sniper buddy and a scope on a TRG 300WM.&nbsp; He was convinced it was the scope and then found it was the mounting system.</P><P>Conversely I just sent a MkIVM3 back to Beaverton for overhaul due to inability to retain zero.&nbsp; Up was up, down was down, and windage = ostrich.&nbsp; I suspect that's not what Leupold engineers intended, but I know why Luppies do this after a time.</P><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Still can't think of anything that would "settle" in a scope that the next shot wouldn't move.</DIV><DIV>I'll take a look at one of my scope autopsies and see if anything becomes evident.</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.opticstalk.com/member_profile.asp?PF=633" rel="nofollow">Mike McDonald</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19328<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> September/29/2009 at 18:20<br /><br /><P>Interesting circumstance.&nbsp; If you bisect a scope and look at the internals, there doesn't seem to be anything that could float around loosely, that recoil could cause to "settle" after a few shots.&nbsp;Erector assembly is fixed at the rea.r on a hiem joint and rests on two bearing bosses at 12:00 O'Clock and 3:00 O'Clock,&nbsp; and is suspended by a spring assembly .</P><DIV>If the spring is at fault then every shot is wild, and if the erector tube rides over one of the bosses ( supersnipers can't do this) then any adjustment becomes a "Z" axis movement.</DIV><DIV>The parralax assembly slides axially down the major force of the generated recoil, both from the cartridge, and then the muzzle brake effect.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;Loose turret screws, improper parallax and reticle not fully focused come to mind as a few things I might look at.</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.opticstalk.com/member_profile.asp?PF=9588" rel="nofollow">Dave Wilson</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19328<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> September/29/2009 at 12:15<br /><br />i have a 20x Lupy that i put on and it will consistantly shoot .25-.5moa. alas i simply can't take that scope backpack hunting. when i crank the turrets, and come back to zero, which for me is about 3" high at 100,&nbsp;the SS&nbsp;will string bullets from 5.5' high to 2' high almost every time, and doesn't always "settle" at the same place. i shot at 700 the other day and had bullets strung up and down 16".<DIV>&nbsp;&nbsp; all mounts seem fine , i've had them off several times as well as other rings. and yes, i always turn into the spring.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp; we're setting up on a series of meadows that can present shooting from 500 to whatever. like i said, my fingers are crossed.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.opticstalk.com/member_profile.asp?PF=9588" rel="nofollow">Dave Wilson</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19328<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> September/29/2009 at 11:41<br /><br />i bought a 20x SS a while back and i'm not very impressed. it simply doesn't hold zero. i have a fairly light ( 9 lbs.) 338/300 ultra mag with a holland radial port brake and i don't think the scope can take it. it always strings impacts down about 2 moa and finally settles in after 3 rounds. of course it doesn't always settle in on the same place. i'm out here in Wy getting ready to elk hunt and i simply will not turn those turrets. i have all the distances for the dots and basically just keeping my fingers crossed.<DIV>&nbsp; when i get home i'm going to try and get my money back.</DIV>]]>

With a tapered base you've got to live with it once you Loc-Tite it in. The best part is they won't scratch or mar a scope tube, and they hold really well. I've never had a scope move in them. I will most likely use 2 sets when I mount glass to my .50. Not so much for the holding power, but rather for keeping everything rigid. The less it flexes the better. A 10X S.S. has a ton of elevation adjustment, so I'm not going to need to taper anything.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bill T.]]>

The only question remains is which one. I thought about putting a Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 5-15X on it, but I'm a little leery because it has a wire crosshair, and is not glass etched like the S.S. I have these Bushnell Tacticals on 3, Savage's and I've had excellent results with them. With that said a .308's and a .300 Win.&nbsp;Mag. are one thing, a .50 BMG is quite another.
