Greetings, new scope shopper here looking for advice. I have recently purchased a Rem 700 SPS in 22-250 and have narrowed my search down to three. I will be using the rifle primarily for woodchuck and fox out to 200/400 yards and in the future hope to travel for other varmints like coyote and P-dogs.
What I have came up with are these three but need help to determining the difference between them besides the price. 1.http://swfa.com/Leupold-45-14x40-VX-3-30mm-Riflescope-P12698.aspx 2.http://swfa.com/Leupold-45-14x40-VX-3-Riflescope-P12691.aspx 3.http://swfa.com/Leupold-45-14x40-VX-3-Riflescope-P12681.aspx OK there's a fourth, I've been looking at this one also thinking it might be better for those longer shot. 4.http://swfa.com/Leupold-65-20x40-VX-3-30mm-Riflescope-P12733.aspx |

First off, I've never been much of a Leupold fan but your post isn't getting any responses so maybe this will help.
I would eliminate options 2 and 3 right off. #2 has the old style bell adjustable objective and #3 has none at all. |

1. Has a 30mm tube will require 30 mm rings and the Varmint hunter reticle with side focus. It will match most 22-250 fairly close. 2. Is a 1" scope with a bell AO The 1" erector will not have quite as much adjustment. This is not as important if you are utilizing the Varmint reticle. 3. Has no parallax adjustment. 4. is a 6.5-20 version of scope #1 I have and or had both versions of 1 & 4. I was not happy with the 20x Leupold. The 4.5-14 was much more serviceable for shooting PD's. Of the 4 scopes mentioned I would go with #1. I replaced the 6.5-20 Leupold with a Zeiss 4.5-14x50. which Has a brighter view with better color than the Leupold to my eyes. The lack of contrast in the Leupold made it more difficult to pick out a PD. at 350 plus yds. My scopes are on Rem 700 varmint rifles in 22-250 If you really want a 20X scope check out the Samplelist and look at the conquest 6.5-20 X50 with target knobs. At the $699 price it will be hard to beat. I cant make the link hot using firefox. http://www.samplelist.com/Zeiss-65-20x50-Conquest-Rifle-Scope-DEMO-B-P61143.aspx Not really trying to bash the Leupold but comparing scopes at price vs performance Hope this helps and welcome to the OT. |
