    Posted: February/20/2011 at 14:24
I have a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S so it has a fixed front sight and a detachable carry handle.  I am thinking about starting to use it for coyote hunting and other small animals.  My question is this:  Can I take the carry handle off of this weapon put a rifle scope on and be able to see over that fixed front sight?

Thanks,

W

Yes you can. You will need medium or high rings to clear the front sight, I'm not sure which though. I have a RRA with the same set up, I put a EOtech on it and that clears the front site NP. If you go to Rock River Arms website they sell the scope mounts for $50.00, I don't know how they compare to the more expensive brands but I'm sure you will get some solid feedback from this forum....Good Luck!

Does 30mm = 1 inch in the world of Optics?

Or are  30mm and 1 inch the only size of the tubes on scopes?

IF you have a variable power scope, like a 4-12x, no you shouldn't see the front site at any power range. This is true even a 3-9x.

Much lower than 3x and you will see the front site. At higher magnifications, you will merely look "through" the front site, if that makes sense. You don't want to try to look over the FSB.

I have a CZ .22lr with a 2-7x Weaver. When I'm at 2x until I'm to about 3x, I can see the shadow of my front site through the scope. When I power up, I can't see the front site.

Welcome to Optics Talk and good shooting.

Here's a 4-16x Monarch on an AR with a FSB. Never saw the site with this scope.

Your more than welcome.

You could go with a flip up front site too, if you wanted.

No. There are a few more scope tube diameters.
1" and 30mm are the most common though.

What is the furthest range you can hit consistently with that setup you have?

Depending on how small of targets, the Burris Tac 30 1-4 illuminated is quite nice, with drops build in for the 62 grn.  If that was on a Burris PEPR or the new SS mount would get it over the front post, or might be enough to cowitness while on the 1x.  It is 30mm though, so make sure on the 30mm ring set up.

Ive got that same Bushmaster, the EO tech with no riser cowitnesses on the iron sights, works great.
That thing on the left....my old ride, some days I miss her.

I've only shot that setup out to 100 yds. Sold the scope off a while back.

Yeah, I've used an AR with an EO tech co-witnessed and that is pretty cool, but I need to get a little farther out.
