AR-Comp powder

Have any of you used the AR-Comp for reloading .223 . I have never used it .The dealer had a lot on hand. I normally use H-355 or RL10x. RR varmint 20" Wylde chamber 55 Gr ballistic tips.

I was considering this for .308 but (and I may be wrong on this) seem to have read it was a reformulation of Reloder 15. If so, I'd be leery using it in a DI gun. Best loads I've ever shot were on top of Reloder 15 but too dirty for me. Anyway, take this with a grain of salt because it was a while back and I'm probably confusing it with another powder. Worth looking into though if that's a concern.

I was under the impression that this was a newer powder. I see it listed fo .223 and .308 This confused me. Naaa. I stay confused.

Looking at the MSDS it appears to be sort of like R15, double base, gray black perforated grains, about same applications. Did not look to see about its density as compaired with R15.

I would like more info on this stuff myself! Does it meter better than varget? Im looking to work up a load on single stage then mass produce on my hornady progressive.

Bought a pound yest an plan on playing with it. I can't find max load for 168grain bullet. Alliant has recipes but no max load list. Anyone know what BOOK max is???

It does run hotter than 4895.  Watch out for trying to do similar loads to Varget.  The sweet spot is right at 42gr of AR-Comp with 168s.  At least that was with my 10FP..

I loaded some rounds to test. I started at 41.5 and went up in .5 grain increments to 43, with 168 amax. Do you all think 43 is border line to hot for an ar-10? I know you can scar up your bolt face with a stout load. I have seen this first hand with 175 mk an 44 of r15.

I to use varget for 168 30cal and I'm happy with its performance in every way except how it meters. If a guy is only loading 50 rds it's no biggy but I plan to load 1k LC brass soon so I am exploring other options. I have been loading some ar comp loads and it meters like a dream so as long as I can find a sub MOA load I believe I am converted:)

Good choices on your powders. I decided that the 13 different varieties of rifle powder I had on hand were just too much, so have been trying to cut down... Varget was the first powder I decided not to restock and H4895 gets used a lot more. After 30+ yrs of handloading, I'm sort of moving out of the experimental phase and am keeping it all a lot simpler.

Like many of you I've been having trouble finding my go to powder (varget).  I picked up a pound of ARComp to see how it shoots in my AR.  These results are just preliminary but they show promise. 

A couple of notes:
These are from my AR.  It has a bull barrel with a 1 in 8 twist. 
Rifle is shot from a bench.
These group sizes are measured edge to edge, I am not subtracting the diameter in these results.
55nBT = Nosler 55gr ballistic tips
80NoCC = Nosler 80gr customer competition.
The 22.6 load for the 80gr was showing pressure signs (flatten primer, strong ejector marks)

The Nosler 80gr bullets can not be seated to mag length.  I plan to use these for mid range ftr.

Some of these 2" results I suspect are poor because I they were shot from a clean barrel and I was shooting them in a round robin style (OCW method).  Those two tight groups with the 80s were standard 5 shot groups.

Powder - bullets - primers - brass - POOF ~~~~   Good luck finding the right stuff to make anything right now if you didnt have it before this started.

I guess I'm just lucky. Picked up 1000 primers on Sat. and walked into a store today where they had 6 lbs of Varget.  Now if I could just find bullets..........
