I thought about a 17 hmr but ammo is so $$$$$$

I have a 93R17 17 HMR, and don't like it very much at all.  I finally found some ammo that would group OK, but everything else shot patterns instead of groups.  The ammo is not cheap, but it is not too bad.  Good .22 LR ammo is not cheap either.

The machining marks on the bolt look like it was finished by a monkey with a coarse file.  The thing I like least about it is the AccuTrigger.  The AccuTrigger seems alright on the bench, but for hunting it feels weird.

I guess for the price it is hard to expect perfection, and it is functional.

Im scared to put my hands on a cz. I have a feeling I would have to have one.

Urimaginary friend I have a browning buckmark 22 camper. It is a real shooter! That thing will shoot CHEAP ammo and not jam. Several of my buddies shoot walter p22 and they jam non stop unless cci mini mag. I have gotten a ton of cheap 22 shells cuz it wouldnt shoot in their guns :)

I have heard the ruger is similar

don't shoot groups except to sight in-- waste of time. The black savage is the tactical model with a higher check and a tactical style bolt for fast manipulation. the scope is a 4x ior that has 15 milhold over in the reticle and that easily in the calibratied turret which is calibrated for 308 168 gr. the drop of a subsonic cci standard velocity replicates the 308 and the 4x gives the same sight picture out to 300 yds which is why the gun makes a good trainer. The experience gained by reading wind drift is worth the effort when going to the bigger guns at 1000 yd.
The stainless is a 22 lr, used for the same purpose,  except it has a leo mk 4 on it. the 17 hmr gains its best use in a handgun which I use a Taurus, and makes up for the inaccuracy and lack of expansion I've found in the various 22 mag hand guns I've tried. 223 can be reloaded for a little more than the 17. any I use a raging hornet in a Taurus.
the ruger is used for standing silhoutte shooting.

Here is what i think im gonna duplicate. I know it is no CZ as far as fit and finish but for the price I think it will be a fun little rig.

Go back to page 1 and look at the stock on Dales similar color tone & type but significantly better tactical style stock.   Model: Mark II TR  has the better stock the Mark II FV-SR has the shorter 16.5 in barrel that is threaded for a flash suppressor or silencer.   http://savagearms.com/firearms/models/

Here is a scope I like for it with Warne 30mm rings.

I have 3 Savage 93R17s in .17HMR and they are all shooters.  I love the accu trigger!  My oldest son does not, so his is a non accu trigger.  I get the ammo when it's on sale and it's cheap compared to high-power ammo.

When I'm hunting, I don't even notice the accu trigger.  I only notice it when I'm at the range and even then, I like it.

I'm not sure what the price of ammo is, but what about the 17HM2?
take em!

I dont mind the accutrigger either. In fact I like them nice and crisp and safe! I like the threaded barrel on the mkii above. I am considering buying a suppressor down the rd. I know 22 rifles are not that loud to begin with but 22 pistols are and since I have a browning buckmark I could use on both.

I like the 17 hmr. Dont know much about hm2 however I can reproduce 223 ammo at dang near the same price. So it is just not worth it to me. I know 22 match ammo can be pricey but not as pricey as 17 match grade.

I've never seen a benefit of a suppressor on a 22 rifle, they work wonders on 22 pistols but on a rifle it just makes it to out of balance unless you go with an intregal suppressed barrel like for a ruger 10-22 or 77-22

How come nobody mentioned the 597? They are incredibly accurate the one we have has an action thats smooth as glass a little work to the trigger and its beautiful very fun rifle and I would take it over a 10 22 in a heartbeat... Maybe not over one of the 60's though I do love my pig rifle haha
Mausers forever

That was great but can you do it again??
