Thanks Bird Watcher. I have that model and was looking for something a little bigger to back them up.

The Mesa is a real decent binocular, and is both in 8x42 and 10x50.  Same with the Rogue.  The best of the lot is the discontinued Cascade porro.  It is an internal focus with really NICE optics.  Look around and you can find end-of-life specials for the same $$ as the Mesa or Rogue.  Those and the Yosemite are about it for Leupold Porros.

Thanks Klamath I will try to find the cascade. Which is the best the 8x or the 10 x I am thinking 8x for weight fov. and steady holding.

Go with the 8x.  They are a lot easier to hold steady and you will love the view.

I personally favor an 8x. You get less image shake, brighter image, and a wider fov.  But that is sort of a personal preference deal.  Some like 10x.

Bird_hunter and Klamath thanks. I can get the 8 for $218. Is that a good price?

I second the motion to get the Cascade porro if you can. The optics are very good, and $218 is a bargain.

I saw some on the internet for $150 last week (doesn't mean they are there now, I didn't check).  Can't tell you where without getting crosswise of OT policies.  Don't forget to look at the SWFA sample list.  But the price you saw is still a good deal for the optics.

I have the Cascades 8X42 and recommend them.  A lot of bino for the money.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice. It makes my choice easy. Cascades 8x42porro.  I have two pair of steiner binoculars that I purchased in the mid 1980s. They are porros military style ruber armored 6x30 weighs 18ounces and 10x50 that weighs about 38 ounces. Can anyone tell me how they rate with good modern binoculars?
