I have a Vias on a GAP and it is a very effective brake, but it is loud.  Very!

There are some that are not as loud as others... probably overall the BOSS is the loudest/caliber of any I have used or seen, but they all are noisy.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

There are some who do not fear death... for they are more afraid of not really living

True.

A guy local in Houston makes/mounts a very effective brake that I prefer above anything else I've used.

The downside to the Vias and similar design is that the view through the scope is obscured for at least a second, meaning you can't watch impact (unless your target is "out there.")

I have moved to the "side port only" design, less barrel rise, little or no dirt blown up into my objective, no sinus-clearing effect on the shooter, and I can watch the hit or miss of the round impact.

RC,
Are you referring to shooting in a prone position, off of a bench?

Either. Both.

A brake with 360 degree ports send smoke and unburnt powder everywhere, including into your objective and into your sinuses.

A brake with side ports sends everything out to the side, not up into your scope and not up into your nose.  They also prevent dust storms when shooting prone, and the good ones angle the ports such that, on recoil, the gun is pulled away from your shoulder and gently pushed down at the muzzle, keeping you on target with the follow-through, no need to re-acquire when the smoke has settled.

RC,

Can you send me his name & #  How well it works is the most important thing as you can always take it off when not in use if its that ugly. This rifle is very expensive and has a very high polished barrel & action. I would hope it could be matched. Some places claim they can match the finish and others you get what you get. I will call him and find out.

Click on "rifles" and you will see his brakes.  They are ugly, they do not unscrew, and they are not meant to match the bluing on your barrel.

If it is a pretty you want, this ain't what you want (they are ugly brakes!)

Many make side-port  brakes, and there is always barrel porting - but that is permanent.

Good luck.

(Ed is very good, maybe he can recommend something to better match the finish.)

Mag-na-port is EDM machined and not drilled nor laser cut. I have been to their shop several times. Larry Kelly has always been a big supporter of SCI and had outfitter parties during the Detroit Conventions at his shop.
I have found Mag-na-porting to be the most attractive looking porting around. It is cut into the original barrel.
It is also quiet compared to some others I have tried. Compared to these others it may not be as effective but it works.
The best and loudest I have used was the Answer Products system. Since the barrel extension had cuts 360 degrees around the brake, it was quite loud. It also did a nice job of parting the leaves on the ground in front of it.

The Surefire muzzlebreak is one of the most effective I have ever used...It is also the Quick Mount Base for the supressor.

I have installed these on a few rifles and they are just superb...They were designed with not kicking up dust in mind they do not offer "noise supression" but effectively do not add noise buy using a patented "couple of well placed holes" relief system for the gas...For 150-200$ well worth it...

Not pretty but practical(not ugly either)...

The engineer on top of this project is probably one of the most underpaid designers I know of he came from a smaller shop and designed things well beyond their time and place.  This while seemingly being a simple design is far superior to any top of the line breaks for the few $$$.  I can say with confidence it is not going to let anyone down on the battlefield on the range or on the hunt... While not as compact as others I believe the weightedness of this to be well worth it.  The looks are very unique.  While it is intended to be covered up by a supressor it still boasts a very impressive functional "reduction" might I dare say it is even quieter than other breaks with such design as to keep you dead on your target by the "patented" gas release or port system...
