S&B used to have a great one. I don't think it is available any longer though. IOR currently has a pretty decent one. I wish I had the above mentioned Kahles!

IOR came to my mind as well, but the Kahles may be a better option.

I had the S&B 4x… great scope. The Conquest 4x is excellent if you can find one. Pentax made an outstanding 4x, as well… very inexpensive, but high quality.

The Weaver K4 is also a good scope for the money... Question is how much do you want to spend...

There aren't many fixed 4X scopes to choose from.
I have a 4X Zeiss Conquest and a 4X S&B Klassik. Both are excellent, and both are now discontinued, though there's always a chance you can find one for sale, especially on the used market. The Conquest is obviously a lot less expensive than the S&B. Besides those two, the Kahles 4X32 and 4X36, Swarovski 4X32, and Zeiss Diatal C 4X32 scopes were all awesome as well and are all likewise no longer made. If you're looking for "best," it would be hard to argue against one of these, but if forced to pick an absolute "best" 4X scope made, I would personally nominate the S&B 4X36 Klassic. Since it was discontinued very recently, you can also still find new ones for sale on occasion if you look hard enough. Of the currently available 4X scopes, the Leupold 4X33 FX and Weaver 4X38 K are both good scopes. I haven't used the IOR 4X, but I have no doubt it's nice. It's not difficult to make a good fixed 4X scope, so I'd be more surprised if a "name" manufacturer actually built a lousy one (of fairly recent vintage). They're pretty uncomplicated, and optical aberrations aren't very noticeable at 4X. |

Worth mentioning and very close to the Zeiss Diatal C is the Bausch and Lomb Balfor 4X. They are long gone but a great scope if you can find one.

Of the scopes that are currently made and available in the States, the IOR 4x32 and 4x24 are probably the best.
However, mid-range 4x scopes like the Leupold FX-2 are quite good as well. Discontinued S&B 4x36 was superb. I think Nickel-AG in Germany still makes a very high end 4x36 scope, but it is runs close to $2k. They only sell direct Kaps makes an excellent 4x36 that is not too dissimilar from the S&B and runs around 500 euro in Europe, but I am not sure if they have a US distributor. ILya

I used to have the Leupy on my hunting rifle and it was fine. Good twilight performance. I liked it enough to keep and now it sits on my .22 trainer. Good 0-250 yard scope on a high-power rifle.

I have a 4x32 conquest on a 17hmr and it is great. I visited the Nickel-ag and looked at their scopes. Their scopes are really expensive. What makes them so expensive and what do they compare to?
