I am looking for your advice on some of the better tripods when using a large spotting scope like the Vortex Razor HD (straight eyepiece).
Primary purpose for this spotting scope is hunting and tactical matches where distance shooting (just beyond 1K) is common.
I have a long torso for my height 6' 2"
Want to be able to use it sitting straight up.
Mention your choice of head as well.
Carbon or other wise.
Thanks!
Ernie

I use a SLIK 700 DX and the pan head it comes with.  I also recommend the Manfrotto 055V and the Manfrotto fluid head.  Next time I get a few extra $$$ I'm getting the Manfrotto head to top the SLIK tripod.  My SLIK goes as low as 18" and high enough for a 6'6 viewer to view standing up with an angled scope.  My spotter is the angled ZEN ED 2, but it is the same size and overall configuration as the Razor.  Both tripods are good solid mounting systems.  I was going to get the Manfrotto as first choice, but I found the SLIK on sale at a more or less "local" Sportsman's Warehouse, so I got it instead.  The Pan head it comes with is not quite as nice as a good fluid head, but still very usable.  SLIK offers a decent fluid head, but it has a lamentable tendency to creep back to where it was just moved from, kind of annoying.

For use sitting at a bench, I see no need for a Carbon Fiber.  Those are best for applications where weight is an issue.  For your pretty stationary use, at a bench the extra expense for the Carbon Fiber is probably not needed.  However, if you want to ever pack it anywhere when you are hunting, then the CF is nice to have.  Don't skimp on a tripod.  A good tripod is probably more important than the spotter sitting atop it.

I also combine the Slik legs and the Manfrotto Fluid head.

This Manfrotto head will accept the foot of the Razor HD without a QR plate:
