Howdy folks,

New member here with a difficult question.  The difficult part will be you trying to figure out what I'm describing.

Here's the deal: I've noticed there's two features I love above all else on scopes.  Optical clarity and (here's the tricky part) field of view? Large viewing window? I'm not sure how to describe it, so...

The trijicon Acog 4x (ta31f) and vortex razor HD 1-6 both seem to have the property I'm looking for - That is, when I look through the scope the image looks huge and goes edge to edge with very little visible border of the scope.  A lot of other scopes I've looked through, regardless of price/quality, make me feel like I'm looking through a thick walled piece of pipe.  Even my old nightforce I had 16 yrs ago didn't have this quality.

So, in summery my two questions are:

1.) is there a name for this particular quality in a scope that I'm describing?

2.) Other than the Acog 4x and razorHD 1-6, what other scopes would have this quality? ( price, magnification, usage are secondary at this point).

Thanks in advance,
Match

p.s. - For reference, I've looked at most scopes carried at Gander Mountain, Cabela's, and Palmetto State Armory and the above two were the only ones that I purchased.

Swaroski scopes also seem this way.  The tube seems to disappear.

My Trijicon 1-4x is this way as is my SWFA SS 1-4x.  The lower the mag typically the larger the field of view, but some scopes don't do it well.

Thank you for the quick reply.  So it's field of view that I'm chasing?  I haven't checked out Swarovski scopes yet, but I'll definitely will.

I did look at the Trijicon 1-4, and it came close... it's still in the running for another project.

I blindly ordered a Lucid L7, but it's going to be returned.  The new Steiner P4xi seems like it might be a winner, but I haven't found any reviews of it yet.  FOV looks descent though - so maybe I'd like it.

You are chasing high quality optical system design, especially eyepiece design.

Historically, Hensoldt and higher end Zeiss scopes were famous for this eyepiece design.

More recently, Vortex paid a bit more attention to this with Gen 2 Razor eyepieces and Razor HD LH eyepiece.

Elcan Spectre OS I have is like that.

There are quite a few others.

Thank you for the reply.  I'll have to see if I can track down an Elcan Spectre to look at...
Which others?

You'd also mentioned Hensoldt, not a brand I'm familiar with but the ZO 4x30 model caught my eye.  I'm assuming it'll share this feature?
