I am trying to decide on a scope for a R700 AAC SD .308. Main use will be hunting out to 500 yds and some target shooting just to improve my ability i am just wondering if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the Burris XTR II line. Thinking either 2X-10X or 3X-15X any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks
(if there is any info already on here please point me in the right direction.)

Running the Burris XTRII 5-25x50 SCR-MOA.  Just got it but it tracks perfect, has great glass in low light.  Tues I will be holding it next to a Vortex Gen II Razor.  I don't expect it to have the clarity the razor does but we shall see.  Granted it's over twice the price the Burris is.

Looking for follow-up, please, on your comparison of the Burris and Vortex scopes.

After having the Burris XTR2 SCR-MOA for a year now and having fired through many different optics I can offer this.
I can tell you that next to the Gen 1 and Viper PST the XTR2 beats them hands down IMHO.  Next to the Gen 2 is a slightly different story.
Pros to the Gen 2:
GREAT GLASS CLARITY, love the color of the tube, Name, slightly more elevation adjustment.

Pros to the Burris XTR2:
Less then half the cost of the Gen 2, significantly less weight, I personally like the reticle better, slightly more windage adjustment.

So what is better?  Well the Glass clarity is almost a push but the Gen 2 edges out.  For what I do the Burris is very good at seeing out to 1200ish yards without problem in a variety of light level conditions. That being said I would have a hard time justifying to myself and my family getting the Vortex.  That does not mean that if I had deeper pockets I wouldn't get it but honestly the Burris is a top tier optic and a budget price for what great glass goes for.  Just go price a TT or S&B etc.  I don't think any top level shooter would suffer from using it over the Gen 2.  You may also be interested to know that I am getting a PST for my Long Range AR -15 build I completed.  Mainly because of the weight difference between the Burris and the Viper PST and the PST is a good compromise.
Again use the right tool for your mission and you can't go wrong.

I would choose the 3-15.
I have three XTR-II's, and I like them

I have a 2-10x xtr2. It is a dandy scope imo. Good adjustments, and good glass.
