Everywhere I've checked calls them Weaver-style. Have a brand-new rifle "chomping at the bit" to get shooting. Came with Weaver bases, decided on 30mm Burris Zees; back-ordered (of course). Dug out an unused set of 1" Zee rings (wrong finish but don't care at this point), and a 1" scope to use for now. The bottom part of the rings wouldn't go over the bases. Thought of prying the "ears" out for clearance, which is the only apparent solution, but not sure the threads of the crossbar will start if that angle is changed.
I know that the difference between Weaver and picatinny rails is the width of the crossbar slots; pretty sure the overall width of the two is the same. Also, fwiw it's a "foreign"-made rifle, of which until now came with their own style of rings and bases. Maybe something got lost in the "translation". (No that's not it. Just tried the Burrises with 2 other Weaver bases and they won't fit over them, either.) Thanks for any answers. |

Remove the cross-bolt screw, then slide the ring onto the end of the base.

Can't do that (slide on from the end). The rings are too narrow at that point; they won't span the base. Am wondering if I just got a pkg. of duds, although I can't see how they could get that dimension wrong in the mfg. process.

Burris Z Rings can be a pain to mount and can rub off finish. I like them because they are very strong and well priced. I usually slightly break the end inside corners (4 per ring) with a small jewelers file and check inside the rails for burrs. Then I apply light grease or oil to the inside tracks on the rings and to the edges of the base. When pushing or tapping them on (wooden dowel works here) be sure they are aligned with the bases and apply even leverage as close to the base of each ring as possible. I currently have sets of stainless Z rings on two Volquartsen rifles which are bare stainless so easier to work with but I have also mounted blued Z Rings on blued rails with this method with no cosmetic damage.

Okay, I'll just have to use more elbow grease. Hate to go with something else because these Burrises, as you said, appear to be strong, yet light (for steel); plus they're just the right height for my application. I'll put that very slight chamfer on to get this stainless set started.
Thanks! |
