Well it landed here a couple of days ago and then came the question what ya gonna put this sucker on.  From the photo one would not expect it to as big as it actually is. It is a 30mm tube after all so it at least appears to be solid.  I think it would be a good slug gun scope but it's not that time of year and I wanted to test it out. After setting it up on a flat top AR  I changed and put it in low warne rings on a Smith Enterlprise AR Carry handle base and took it and a couple of 22 s to the range.  At 22 degrees with about a 20 mph wind it was probably not ideal but the wind was dead on 6 oclock so why not.  The big disappointment was when I went to turn on the illuminated dot and got nothing, not a hint of illumination, had some at home where it was nice and warm and I'm thinking I heard these coin type batteries have short life in the cold but this is not good.  I shot it a few times at about 40 yds to get on paper then moved to 200 yds.  1x to 4x isnt a lot of power compared to most of my scopes but the glass seems to be good and I rather like the reticle. Still being on top of a carry handle gun didnt make it so with no illumination I figured it was defective and took it off.  Once I got home I opened the battery compartment to see what the number was on the battery and then closed the compartment and turned it on - presto a nifty little red dot came on.   I guess it doesnt like the cold. So now I'm looking around to see what else it can go on.  It is now on a .308 and this looks about right  as I said this scope is larger than one would think (and heavier)  has a solid feel to it. I just need to spend a little more time with it and see if I continue to have issues with the red dot not working in the cold.  I dont like working in the cold either but I dont get a choice.

Hello

The cold will not effect the battery until it gets to about -40 at that point its about 30% of the voltage.

I would think the cap was not making good contact with the battery.  this happens too often.  The little fingers on the cap loose tesion so if you bend them slightly up so they make better contact with the battery you may find that to help.  This is also when you fire the dot goes off.  same fix.

Hope this helps

Well Round 2 no problems with the dot since that initial incident it seems to work. I have mounted it on several different rifles to see what it was a good match for. Yea I always seem to need more scopes than I have.  I think it found a home on a brand new stainless Ruger Mini 14  that is intended for hunting coyotes.  Just a side note but I ordered a couple of 20 round mags from Ruger and they have on their site that it may take several weeks but two days later by prioity mail they showed up, I ordered them before I found the rifle just to see if I could actually get them then I had to go hunt down the rifle and find a way to trade into it. I have to say I was impressed with the speed and effeciency of Rugers Customer Service Thunbs Up "Anyway the rifle came with 1 inch rings so wanting to mount it before I went to work I ran down and got some Leupold 30mm Ruger rings - ouch spendy little things but you pay too much or have to wait. Once mounted I went to work and my youngest boy took it to the rifle range and sighted it in telling me he was getting about an inch and a half at 200. I was shocked.  The last time I had a Ruger Mini 14 was in 1979 and if you could hold them in a pie pan at 100 that was as good as it would get  - once again  Ruger Thunbs Up  As for the scope so far it seems quite useable for coyotes low power 1-4 with illumination  sounds about right because coyotes are often still moving when targeted.  Granted its not a Trijicon but I wont cry if the boy breaks it  -- The torture test has begunDevil

Would a SWFA guru please compare and contrast the features and quality of this Bushnell with the Millet DMS-1?

I just bought the Millet, and other than the donut in the reticle and the two flip covers, I can't tell a difference.

If there are no other differences, including quality, I may return the Millet for the Bushnell for the cost savings.

I have this scope on a mini-14 6.8 and it works very well for my use.
Mainly the set-up is used for hog hunting.
I have compared wild hog hunting around and in the Palo Dura Canyon of the TX panhandle to hunting blue quail.  You jump a bunch and they are all around you; but the next thing you know they are 100yds away.

Since the scope is a true 1 power, it gives a great field of view for close up shots and works fine with both eyes open.  Then one can easily crank up to 4 power for those hogs just going over the hill.

I have had no problem with the electronics or the dot.  Very useful in early morning or evening hunting; then just turn it off and you have a very friendly cross-hair scope.

I like the 30mm for its added light-gathering and the smaller ojective lens permits low mounting on the mini.

The scope is not a long-range optics tool; but hey, it works great on the mini-14 6.8.
