Does anyone know anything about the Bushnell Elite E3950 scope? I know it is a discontinued scope but there are NO REVIEWS out there that I can find. I am looking at a Bushnell Elite 3200 also. Just wondering which is a better scope...Suggestions???

They are one in the same. Bushnell started off with two lines in the Elite series, the 3200 and 4200. Later on, they decided to make one line and named them the Elites. This raised some questions from folks as to which ones were from the previous 4200 line and 3200 line regarding their quality (mostly which models had better glass). The easiest way to answer that question was to ask them whether or not the scope they were looking at had a 3x zoom ratio or a 4x zoom ratio as that was the biggest (and easiest) distinguishing factor between the two lines. In other words, did the scope have a range such as a 3-9, 4-12, 5-15 or did it have a 2.5-10, 4-16, 6-24 etc. The 4200's always had better glass as well. Fast forward to the present, Bushnell decided not to confuse their customers and return to two distinct lines and this year we are back to the 3500 and 4500 lines. The single exception to all this was a 3-9 model that had 4200 quality glass with a price that was only slightly higher than the previous 3200 3-9's. IIRC, it was roughly, $50 more. I believe that 3-9 is discontinued today from both new lines. It also sported a true 1 pc tube when the others (3200's) had a non-integral turret housing glued/cemented to the tube assembly. Today, they might all have a true 1 pc tube, but I'd have to check on that. Hope this long winded post helps you.

That 3-9x 4200 was a super scope IMO. I got two of them for $199 each when they were clearing them out. Still love them

Not to steal this thread, but since we are talking Bushnell, did the Bausch & Lomb Elite 4200 scope have better glass than the Bushnell Elite 4200 ?

As far as the glass itself ? No. I'm not sure when Bushnell improved their Rainguard (HD) version so one could call that an improvement as well. Same could be said of their "ultra wide band" coatings. As far as the image quality, they are the same. Just a WAG that the two improvements came when they melded the 3200 and 4200 into the single Elite line might be when they came out with the Rainguard HD and Ultra Wide Band coatings which just improve/broaden the visible light spectrum.

I purchase an Elite 3200 10x40 about a month ago. I have to say I was disappointed with the glass, I guess my expectations were just to high because it had many glowing reviews. What I gathered from much research is, there is inconsistency with the craftsmanship on this model.
Here is what I did not like: There was quite a bit of chromatic distortion (orange/red flare around the edges), the parallax error and the eye relief were unbearable (just miserable), I could not get mine to focus 100% (it would only get about 96% clear and no, it was not my eyes. I have no issue with focus on my other scopes). I sent it back after one trip to the range. I think if there was a focus adjustment for the parallax the scope would have been livable for $200 but the reticle would move 2 inches up and 2 inches to the left at 100 yards with very little head movement and this would get worse the farther the target got. But I can only speak for the 10x model, the others might not have the same issues. Stay cool |

Oh ya, I forgot to mention. I upgraded to a SWFA 12x42. The turrets are not as nice but the rest of the scope is so much better. If you have not purchased a scope yet I highly recommend you look at the SWFA.
