Last fall, I sent my LTR stock off to CDI Precision to have their bottom metal installed. The bottom metal is excellent, as was the inletting. However, after several "involuntary" mag releases while out hunting this fall, I decided to shorten the release lever because it was catching on my backpack strap. First, I want to stress that I don't view this as a fault of the CDI bottom metal, but rather a result of the way I carry my rifle - slung in a Kifaru Gunbearer hanging on my pack. That put the rifle in a position that made it easy for the release to catch on a taut strap.

I simply removed the lever with a drift and shortened it 5/16" before replacing it. It is still easy to release with bare hands and with gloves that have at least a little grip it is reasonably easy. I don't need to rapidly drop mags:

I still highly recommend the CDI bottom metal but thought I'd mention this mod if someone ends up in a similar situation.
Reaction time is a factor...
