I started hearing a few yotes howling/growling a couple of days in a row in the evenings about 545pm from one of my stands. I decided to take my mouth call and call when I heard them again but watch for deer until. I sat from 630am on this day as the temps dropped and rain was moving in. Sure enough 530pm The dogs started doing there thing. After them yelping/ howling for about 5 minutes it got eery quiet. So I let out a high pitched yelp from one of the calls. About 30 seconds a yote topped the hill and stood proud atop a hill 207 yards away. it went to sleep pretty fast after I noticed it. It was quiet for about 20 minutes and then another started raising cane on the opposite side of the hill from me behind the sleeping yote. I let out another yelp and dang if this one didn't run to the top of the hill and let out a nice chilled bumped growl. it also went to sleep. They were both laying 7 feet from each other taking a nap when I got down and walked over. this was the first black yotes I have shot. The flash from the camera made them not look as black as they really are.

foot notes.

Sure those aren't wolves?
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Those do look "wolfish"... However, the coyotes around my place are similar in that they are larger than Kalifornia coyotes, and vary in color.  The people in the area say they have bred with wild dogs.  I've seen a couple running with a wild dog pack and killed one a couple years ago that when I first saw him, I thought he was a wolf.  They are very pretty, Brandon.  I hope you skin them and keep the hides... Very nice.  I'd like a jacket made of those pelts.

I shot them with a 300win mag slinging a 210gr berger vld. I love that bullet. it drops stuff.

Yeah, there is a local taxidermist who will do a free shoulder mount for a black yote. I could have had 2 done if I knew about it 3 days sooner. The buzzards ain't them up fairly bad.
