Hello
New to this forum, first post. Purchased a 17 HMR Cz Rifle and in need of a scope for it. Just learning about rifle optics and do not know alot. Been looking at a Mueller Eraticator 8.5-25x50AO is that a good choice ? Most of my shooting is at Paper and 125 yards max
Would like to stay under 300 dollars. any suggestions?

If you want to dial in correction the 6x Super Sniper would be a good all around scope. It does have a 30mm tube and is available in higher powers but 6x can be hunted easily where high magnification scopes are benchrest only type scopes.

As for the 8.5 to 25x50 I do not recommend that power range for anything even though I own a Leupold Mk4 in 8.5-25x50 it is simply too high of a power on the low end scopes that are low end of 4x or 5x are so much more useful in the field and if you are going only benchrest a high power fixed 16x or 20x like Sightron S3 or the Super Snipers will do the benchrest work but they leave a lot to be desired in low light due to the physics involved.

One comment.
I am hoping that if you are going to be hitting paper @ 125 that you would consider a lower magnification range as even at 6x you will be able to make out the .17cal holes in the target. They still have a Vortex 2-7 on sale for a mere $150 that is worth every penny of it. |

I dont know alot about this but i have a 4x 32 Konus mounted on a Henry 17 varmint cant see any holes at 25 yards. at 50 the cross hairs are wider then the target gridlines. Does a couple points of magnification make alot of difference?

For what its worth, LOVE my CZ 453 in 17. Such a nice rifle, and great price for what fit and finish you get. Was impressed enough by it bought a CZ Redhead Deluxe O/U. I got a 20MOA rail for it for some reason, i think cause it was there, and it wears my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50, so its a darn big scope for that rifle. My other walking 17 wears a prostaff 3x9, but you guys now have me thinking about that Pride Fowler instead of the prostaff.
I bought one Mueller Target scope, was ok, for the price probably better off spending a bit more.
