    Posted: May/23/2010 at 21:24
I have a dilemma. I inherited an old Remington 550-1 Remington .22 rifle which someone installed a scope mount and a cheapo 3/4" 4X scope on it sometime in the past. I am looking for a decent scope to replace this 10 dollar 4X. Almost everything made now is 1" and the older 3/4" Redfields I have found on E-Bay are going for $250. I have never seen and don't think they make a 1" mount for this gun. Any ideas? Thanks.

Would't it be easier to convert the scope mount to another size?

Can you get a picture of the existing mounting system. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. It can probably be replaced with weaver bases.

Heres a couple of pics. Like I was saying, pretty antiquated and I don't see anything like this for a 1 inch tube.

Without drilling I am not sure if any other mounts wil work. This scope will work in that mount.

Savings will buy a brick of shells.
When Cleaning be sure and not ever remove the sear spring screw on a 550 . It is very difficult to get back in properly.

+1 on the Redfield. I am going to try and pick one up on Evil-Bay if I can. Plus it will look like a better match for a rifle of that age.

Lyman Alaskans are never a bad choice in a 3/4" tube, either.  A pricier choice, but never a bad one.
