Has anyone done (or seen anywhere) a comparison of the new FFP Diamondback Tactical vs the Talos BTR?  Specifically glass comparison....  Thanks.

I've got a FFP Diamondback on its way here, so I will know how it stacks up shortly.  I do not have a Talos BTR on hand right now, but I have had hands on with it.  It is not ideal, but I should be able to offer an educated guess.

I started looking at the 4-16x44 Diamondback that I received a couple of days ago.

It is difficult to tell right off hand, but so far I think the closest equivalent from Athlon is their Midas TAC 4-16x44.  I wouldn't be surprised if this was a version of the same design from the same OEM.

So far, I kinda like it.  I think it is a very respectable design in terms of optics, especially given the price.  Turret feel is OK.  Good enough for the money.  I will check the tracking once I get it to the range.

Given that Vortex put their nice tree reticle in there, at a minimum, it is a good candidate for a "reticle only" use scope, if it holds zero.

I ordered the Vortex and returned it.  The glass was...ok...just not clear enough at the top end.  Reticle is very nice tho.  I decided to spend a little more and get some better glass.

In the end, you usually get what you pay for.  There some things that are better deal than others, but ultimately, if you are picky about optics, you should be looking in higher price ranges.

I'm a pretty demanding consumer of optics products... I'm having a hard time understanding what it is you would be expecting from a $350.00 rifle scope that the Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44 FFP does not deliver.  There are a few things that I would wish were better, but I'm not going to get them from ANY scope maker for the price.  I just, moments ago, killed an armadillo in my backyard, moon conditions, at about 40 yards with this scope on my 6.5 Grendel(dang thing has been digging up my backyard... no longer)... I have a lot higher cost scopes that don't provide any better optics in the dark... the RAW exception is my 6-24x72 Hensoldt...
I keep the scope set on 10x, it doesn't have illumination (a deficiency in my book)... took about 20 seconds from initial sighting to final result..one shot... dead 'diller...if the glass wasn't pretty darned good, that would not have happened.
However, at 16x, the only decrease I see is FOV.  There is a "fuzzy area" in the optical center of the scope changing from lower to higher powers.  I find it irritating, but not overly distracting.  Knowing, now, that it is going to happen, allows me to dramatically decrease the impact.
Everyone's eyes are different... are you certain your focus was properly adjusted?  Just a question.  I'm not doubting your issues with the scope... just wondering.
I definitely intend to keep this Diamondback scope.

I didn't mean to stir things up, especially with my first post here.  Sorry. Wink

I bought the 6-24.  The glass was good up to about 16 or so, but got a little cloudy the closer it got to 24x.  I decided to spend more and try the Viper gen 2.  It should be here shortly.

You didn't "stir anything up".... just giving you my personal experience.  Sorry about your experiences with the 6-24.  We always want every scope we buy to be "perfect"... sometimes fails to be that way.
