Can someone tell me if a variable scope looses optical precision (clarity, you know, just doesn't look as good) at the top end of it's range?
For example ..... let's say I want a magnification of 14X ..... I have two scopes that are identical except one is a 4.5-14 and the other is 6.5-20. Will the 6.5-20 be better set at 14X cause it's in the middle of the range rather than the 4.5-14 at the top of it's range or will they both be the same?

15 or 20 years ago variables were pretty bad at the high end of their range, but that's not true any more. A good quality scope that goes up to 14X will be fine at the top end.

The top quality ones shouldn't have that type of problem. |
