Had a few reminders of Travis this week. The first is when Trooper killed a coon on the evening walk; Travis loved to kill coons. The second was when Mrs. BF caught Trina stealing dog food out of the bag.
This was something Travis was an expert at.
We have to keep the dog food in a lockable bin to keep the dogs from stealing food. When I would transfer the food from the bag to the bin Travis always managed to steal a mouth full or two, plus what ever kibbles hit the floor that Tracer didn't get. It was even fun to watch him steal the food. He reminded me of a snake. He would pull his head back like a snake coiling for a strike, turn his head slightly to make me think he wasn't watching the food as I poured it into the bin. Then at the slightest little distraction on my part, he would strike like a snake at the food, and grab a mouth full or two. It was just fun to see how he was going to steal food when I transferred it.
Just one of those fond memories.

Thought I'd bring this back up in case anyone had some stories about their K9 friends.

My last dog was ... literally... gator bait. I tried to hunt / kill the gator but was unsuccessful. Pity. He was a good boy.

Years ago, one of my Dad's golfing buddies mentioned a problem with a big Florida gator that kept encroaching on his back yard.  His visiting grandchildren played there, so this was a real problem.

Several weeks later, Dad asked his friend what happened to the gator.  The friend's reply was short and to the point:  "They'll never find it!"

OK, this isn't a dog tale, but a cat tale, that involves a dog. Mrs.BF and I just lost our cat, and Mrs. BF called him a cog, because sometimes he was more dog than cat, and his name was Pepper.
My sister got Pepper as a kitten at a you-pick-it farm on a family outing. Mrs. BF warned my sister that her dog, a Yorkshire Terrier would try to kill the kitten. My sister ignored Mrs. BF and took the kitten home with her. Well that night she showed up at my mother's with the kitten, because her dog was trying to kill it. Of course mom took the kitten in. Now every time I went over to mom's, that kitten would come running up to me meowing and following me everywhere I went in the house. I fell in love with the little guy and told my mom I would love to have the kitten, but I figured mom would never give him up.
In the meantime, Mrs. BF and I got a new puppy; a Shetland Sheep dog named Barkly.
About 6 weeks after my sister gave my mom the kitten, mom and dad showed up to our house with Pepper. When they left, they left Pepper with us.
Barkly and Pepper were about the same age, and when they saw each other it was like two old friends had just got together. They started play fighting, and would go at it for hours, never hurting each other. They hung out together, slept together, and played together. They were best buds.
About a year after Pepper came to live with us, my mom came up to the house with my sister's dog. Mom was dog sitting for my sister and decided to bring him up to our house for some exercise. Pepper was sitting in the front yard when Baily (my sister's dog) wanted to go outside. Mrs. BF let Baily out the front door, and he saw Pepper. Baily immediately took off after Pepper yapping all the way. Mom and Mrs.BF were watching this out the living room window. As Baily charged after Pepper, Pepper raised up and raised his front paws in the air readying himself for the fight that was coming. Baily got to within a few feet of Pepper and decided he didn't want anything to do with that cat and immediately turn around and ran back to the house yelping all the way. Mom and Mrs. BF busted out laughing. Mom laughed so hard she had to go to the bathroom.
I'm glad Baily was the reason Pepper came to live with us, but I'm glad that Pepper got his revenge on Baily.

We had a big cat up on the farm in Kansas. He was a big lazy slob....but a great fellow! My mom gave us a dog. Drove this huge dog all the way up from New Mexico to give us a dog we didn't even know was going to arrive!

Anyway, we used to take the cat and toss him up close to the dog! ( He was a BIG cat! But a big, lazy TV watcher, basically! ha! ) Anyway, the dog began jumping and barking like he wanted to play! The cat FREAKED! He got pissed and ran at that 50 lb dog...ALL PISSED OFF!

My folks got two farm kittens when I was 23.  We named them mits and scooter.  When they got full grown they were both huge cats.  Scooter was the biggest.  My dad and grandpop would go walking every morning and Scooter would follow my dad to grandpa's every morning and then go walking with them.  But he would always start whining part way and need to be carried.  So my dad started locking him in the garage in the mornings.  Well one morning he was not around.  So my dad headed to grandpas (they lived about a block away) and Scooter was sitting on grandpa's drive way waiting for them to go walking.  He started to do that every day.  So next grandpa would catch him and lock him his shed.  That worked about twice and Scooter would them meet them about a block into the walk so he could still go.  He was a smart bugger.

He eventually just moved over to grandpa's house and lived there.  My grandma would not let him in the house even though he wanted to be a house cat.  WHen she died he got his wish and became his house cat.  He did everything with my grandpa.  I got married in the meatime and bought a house that was around the corner from grandpop, so our back yards touched.  So when grandpa died Scooter just moved over to our house.  He was really pissed for a long time that he could not be a house cat at our house.

When we got our lab Remmie, they became best buddies and played, slept, napped, and did everything together.  WHen we would take Remmie for runs on the RZR scooter would come and ride in the RZR with us.  Scooter would even ride in the back of the truck with our dog.  THey were tight.

We had build a heated dog house for Remmie and Scooter just slept in there with her.  One winter woudl have been scooters 13thm we did not see him for a couple days.  So I started looking for him and he was dead inside the dog house.  He was all stretched out with his head cocked sidways.  (like in the pick below) It was obvious he had just died in his sleep.  Remmie was a mess the rest of the winter.  You could tell she missed him terribly.  We bought her kittens the next spring and she was thrilled.  Then we bought her her own dog the next year.  They are all buddies now.

The other cat named Mits is still alive we believe, but are not certain.  He will go missing from my parents house for months at a time, then just show up again and stay with them for a few weeks or months.  They have not seen him for about 2 months though so we are not sure if he is still living or not.  He is on his 16th year if he is still alive.

I had a cat named Scooter! Someone gave us these two little teeny kittens in Gillette, Wyoming that their Mama didn't want to feed. So we fed them with eyedroppers until they could eat. We called them Scooter and Squirt. They grew up alright. We moved to Montana and took them with us....

Scooter was a big tomcat. He was Hell on Wheels. Squirt was a Baby...He wanted to lay around indoors in his smoking jacket and watch David Letterman....

Scooter would disappear for three days at a time....Squirt was sleeping on our bed.....It would be 20 Below Zero....Scooter would show up every few days and check in....He used to torment some big dogs who lived indoors by looking in their windows and making them go crazy!  Bucky

We eventually moved down to Glenrock, Wyoming....and one winter he never came home....I always figured he probably got locked up in someone's garage....

We had a family lunch in our front yard one time.  Aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters etc.  It was in May and the baby birds were nesting in a big pine tree next door.  I think Scooter was jealous we were all eating and wouldn't share with him.  So he climbed the tree next door and brought down a baby bird and ate it right in front of us all.  Then he done it two more times.  lol  It was hilarious.  All the little kids were crying that he was eating birds, and moms were trying to keep their kids from looking.  And the dads were laughing.

Really, I had such funny problems, but for my children, it did not seem normal. When I went to the park, I always had to make sure that he did not eat everything around. XD I thought we were giving him too little food, so we decided to go to the veterinarian. He suggested we take the bone marrow and showed us how to prepare them: https://thepetsmaster.com/how-to-cook-marrow-bones-for-dogs/ .Ever since I had no problem eating whatever he found. I always had to have a bone when I went out for a walk. Now doesn't eat everything. XD

Cool stories, you all. Most of my stories are not about dogs because I am a cat person. But there was a case when a dog bit me in my leg.
It was quiet and didn’t bark once, so I thought it was alright. But it turns out some dogs use this strategy to get closer to a person’s leg and bite it as hard as the case. I don’t like such dogs because they are not fair.
One of my cats even fought with such a dog because it tried to bite me. Twiggy saved me from it, and I am very thankful. It proved to be not only an emotional support animal with a certificate from https://www.esaregistration.org/united-airline-travel-policies/ but also a protection animal.
