I just learnes that Nikon monarch scopes come with wire reticles. Wanting to make sure I buy the best scope for my money should that concern me? Is etched really that better? How much higher end do you got to go to get etched reticles? Does anyone know if Bushnell elite 4200 has etched or wire?

I dont own either one but I have done a lot of reading on this forum and I believe that an etched reticle is definately the better reticle. The lowest price etched reticle scope that I know of is the ZEISS CONQUEST which just so happens to be one the highest recommended scopes in the $400 price range. The ELITE 4200 is also considered to be as good as the ZEISS but it has RAINGAURD COATINGS and is also in the $4OO price range. Unfortunately the ELITE 4200 doesnt have an etched reticle. It has a wire reticle secured by a aluminum ring which is then secured with a strong sealant and then is double secured by three screws to hold it in place. The way I see it the ZEISS CONQUEST and ELITE 4200 are hard to decide between. Many believe the ZEISS is the better scope because it has as you said an etched reticle and even better a constant eye relief of 4 inches at all power settings. ELITE only has 3.3 inch eye relief but has RAINGAURD. The ELITE 4200 offers a one year money back gaurantee if you dont like their scope. Something to consider.
