I have an old 16 guage shotgun given to me by my grandpa.  it was his first gun and hisn dad had given it to him.   i dont know much about it and was hoping the vastly knowledgable congregation here could give me some insight as to its value.
the only markings i can find on it are "john browning patten 1900"  and springfield automatic   mfg savage arms utica NY usa.   I dont have enough posts to post a pic so if anyone wants to see it I can email a pic

Assume from your description that this is an autoloader??

Found some info that on February 8, 1900 Browning filed the  first of four patents on
his auto 5 shotgun. Manufactured by Fabrique Nationale in 1903 and by Remington Arms Company in 1905. Will check a little further and see if this was later mftg by Savage.  Was avail in 12, 20 & 16 gauge

Savage most certainly produced shotguns based on Brownings Auto 5 patten.  My father-in-law had one.  They are not on the same level quality wise as the FN or even the Rem. versions, but they are nice guns.  I'll check my "Blue Book" to see if I can get a value for ya.
take em!

My book shows the Model 720 Autoloader Standard - 12 or 16 ga., Browning A-5 style semi-auto action, 26-32 in barrels, various chokes, checkered pistol grip stock. Mfg. 1930 - 1949.
100%     98%      95%     90%     80%    70%     60%
$225      $180     $165    $155    $140    $120    $110

Hope this helps!
take em!

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

My book doesn't show a model 12A.... just SxS 12 ga., with damascus barrel.  Ranges from $275 for 100% down to $45 for 10%.  It says, ACME ARMS, previous trade name for Cornwall Hardware Co., NY.

BTW.... these are from the 23rd Edition which was published in 2002.
take em!

darthballs, send a letter to Savage:
Savage Arms, 100 Springdale Road, Westfield, MA 01085

- include all the info you have especially the serial #.  They should be able to provide a date of manufacture.  Unfortunately Savage will not accept email requests.
