48 hrs/ week at the real job. 4 12hr nights 6pm to 6am. 4 on 4 off. This would be great for time off if it wasn't for the construction on the days off. My dad owns a business as a general contractor, so I make for great slave labor. I usually get another 48 in there. The weather has kept that stalled so far this year. I was due for a break anyway.

Unless you're getting OT pay (which most of you don't from the sounds of it), your hourly wage is probably at the poverty level! Hope the bosses appreciate you!
... damn hard to buy ammo, scopes or new guns with appreciation though

I work at least 40 hrs but it usually takes about 15 min to change shifts before and after that so sometimes I get a couple of hours overtime and sometimes I get screwed out of the overtime. State job but the boss is a Federal Tech (strange deal).

Well, Here goes. I can't remember, I work 14 days straight on day shift for two weeks than 6 days on nights (21 straight) one night off than six more night shift, weekend off unless production runs on the weekend than five days on evenings weekend off. than it starts all over again. so for two weeks out of six i work 40-50 after that 64-72. The IRS loves me.

I'm an automation specialist and a maintenance team leader for a major automotive manufacturer here in the south. Yes, it helps if you like your job, but that goes for any field. As an automation specialist I take care for the robots in my shop, as a team leader I am responsible for everything from the air shower you walk through into the clean room, the air houses that keep the clean room at 73 degrees 58% relative humidity year round to the regenerative thermal oxidizers that destroy all the air borne pollutants that could possibly escape without them, and everything else that goes with painting and baking a car body. Oh I forgot, and all the paperwork that goes with it. PM's, shift reports, breakdown reports, failure analysis and implementation of countermeasures. Did I say I love my job?
Oh, and it needs to be done by last Friday!!! CAN DO BOSS!!! Just write the check!!! Edited by Steelbenz - April/26/2008 at 22:10 |

I hear you Steelbenz, I do the same for an aluminum extrusion plant. We are responsible for everything under the roof. Automated extrusion presses and handling systems to the bathroom plumbing. Of course we all have to be machinists too, because god forbid they actually buy parts so we can do our job. The only good news is that we get paid OT for anything over 8 hours a day, so I get 16 hours every week.

Retired and 0 hours ZERO , If you really like what you do it does not seem like working till you get to about 60 hours a week then regardless it starts to feel like work. During my working years 80 to a 100 hours a week was not unusual some weeks more very few less.
But I did enjoy what I was doing and looked forward to the challenge and would do it again if I was physically able.
