I love Nikons .... but would take a good Zeiss anyday .

No disrespect intended, but I don't think there is as much distance between a Conquest and a 4200 than you elude too.

Roy
i agree with you roy they are pretty close, i like the constant 4" relief the conquest sports, and also the thicker reticle. other than that it would take me a long time of side by side testing to declare a clear winner

I agree here, too. The 3-9 4200 is very close to the 3-9 Conquest. For the money it's the 4200 all the way for me.

I saw a member review here just recently where a 4200 was compared to a Conquest and I believe the poster thought they were close as well. The Conquest, in 3-9 anyway, has more eye relief, but if it's a thicker reticle you desire, look through a FireFly equipped 4200. I have this reticle in two of my 4200's, and for low light, it's about as good as it gets, IMO. In fact, I have not "charged" the reticle while hunting yet. Never needed too.

Very well put.
As far as arrogant Leupy owners go, I've never come across any in camps or at the range. In fact, most of the shooters I come across want to check out the 4200's, Monarch's and Kahles I bring. The Kahles C models never fail to impress, BTW. These same shooters and hunters see plenty of Zeiss but not much of the Kahles.

That's because your armed. I think the ugly side comes out mostly on these type forums, and this forum is mild to say the least. Much higher class of folks here.

Roy is being very generous. A lot of us have had our day in the sun around here. Regardless, he is correct. This forum is civil compared to some others. Check out the caliber corner or carry issues over @GT and you'll know what I mean.
I'm not sure which way I would go on the O.P. The 3.5-10 Leo has been very good to me.
If we throw in the 4200, it would be Bushy all the way.

I haven't given the Firefly reticle a try --have to give that some thought...and yes , I stand behind my thoughts on the comparison !!!! If the Conquest was within a few dollars, then it may be a toss up for the bolder reticle VS the Rainguard ..but I'd still probably go for the rainguard...

Most of the time the way these comparisons come up in camp is someone asks the question "What do you think of Leupolds?" fully expecting me to share their enthusiasm and tell them it's a great scope.  When my answer is I don't think much of them,  there is a pause and a look of incredulity on their faces, their eyes narrow and they immediately go into a defensive you-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about mode of disbelief.  If no more is said then I leave it at that.  If they ask the 2nd tier of questions I explain that Leupold uses inferior glass, sometimes their click adjustments are not accurate, they are fuzzy by comparison and they are overpriced.  It is much like explaining how the rich pay way more taxes than anyone else, the cause of high gas prices or talking about weapons of mass destruction with a liberal Democrat with most of them at that time.  But at least they go away and don't bother me anymore because they have no arguments other than that's what they grew up with and it's American made (don't the glass components of Leupold come from the Phillipines or Japan much like the glass for Conquests come from Germany?).

A very few will take it to the next level and ask to be shown.  I don't bring it up or instantly criticize their scopes.  Mostly people who know me enough to respect my opinion have been shown and have realized there are other scopes out there.

The question was asked to compare Zeiss and Leupold.  That comparison is like comparing a Chevrolet to a BMW, IMO.  Now I own a Chevrolet truck but if BMW made one then I would have to look at it and possible switch if they were the same price, or less, than the Chevrolet.

However, I sincerely hope that Leupold will start producing a better products and I will be the first to try one out and go back to them.

Well said, Brian. I wouldn't expect anything less from a fellow Michigander.
