I am looking for scopes for an Encore .50cal muzzleloader with an
additional 30-06 barrel. I'm not able to purchase a high end
scope like I see most talking about.
I'm leaning toward the Nikon Pro Staff scopes. How would you rate the Pro Staff scopes for quality vs. cost? Are they durable? Edited by arrowsmith |

pass on the prostaff... Not worth it. Look at getting a simmons Aetec, Leupold VX-II, or a muzzleloader/shotgun scope. These will have much better eye relief...
I have a compact Burris 1-4x on my TC Omega. It does a great job. |

the prostaff is a good scope for the money, superior to the Aetec, and will suit you just fine.

No need to argue... just look at the stats.
Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 ($150) 3.6 inch eye relief no multicoating = relatively poor light transmission Field of View at 100 yards = 33.8-11.3
Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44 ($130) 5 inch eye relief fully multicoated = great light transmission Field of View at 100 yards = 44-14
You make the call...
By the way I have nothing against Nikons. I think the monarch line is outstanding. I just put one on my new AR-15! The Buckmaster line is also o.k. I just think the prostaff are obviously not worth it as stated above.
