Okay, I'm looking at a scope to buy for my Savage Mk II. I got an offer of a Banner 4-16x50, which I cannot find any information about whatsoever. The scope looks good, it's new in box, and says it's made in Japan. The offer is $85, which sounds like a real deal to me if it's a Japanese Bushnell.

I don't know when it's from, he says that he got it in a trade with another person and didn't buy it personally. Judging by the aesthetics on the box I'd say it's no more than 10 years old, but I really don't know for sure.

I'd appreciate help from anyone who knows anything about these scopes.

Price wise I really dont thing you are getting a super deal so unless  you need a low end higher power optic  my though is why bother.  It all depends on if it fits your needs, for me if I had one It would probably be a good scope for a 22 or 22 mag or 17hmr.  It wouldnt be my first pick for a deer rifle so for what its worth it doesnt seem to be a steal but the price may be fair market value.

The Banner from that time period if it is that old is a solid scope. It is Japan made with some pretty decent glass for the money. If it is in new condition, go ahead and spend with confidence.

Well, the Savage Mk II is a 22LR. I'm mostly going to be using it for backyard paper punching, so it seemed to be a good fit for that. I just was unsure of whether there were any major issues or problems with this model.

I felt a Japan-made new in box scope that costs $30 less than the current chinese-made Banner 4-16 was a pretty good deal. Maybe not a 'steal,' but a good price.

Also, I would never put a Banner on a centerfire. I've shot cheap scopes to pieces with the recoil that comes from that.

I don't trust the newer ones, though I will say that Bushnell won't sell crap knowingly. The one I have has been on a 300 RUM for some years now and has been a reliable scope, with no problems at all. Even dropped out of a stand once from 30 feet up. It's a scope from the era that the one you are asking about.
You should be wary though because there are some counterfeit Bushnells out there.
