All new Savage model 12 .223, Leopold standard bases, low rings. VXII Leopold 3x9x40
Put it all together, scope was close but had room. I've had to put 3 shims under the front base in order to get zeroed and still have my elevation adjustment close to center.
Is this normal? I bought the package at a Gander Mountain and a manager waited on me. I should have ordered everything to do with the optics myself rather than put my faith in a retail sales person, live and learn.
The alum. shims are thin metal similar to an old style beer can in thickness. But three of those suckers. I haven't used lock-tite yet, should I?
What would some of you experienced folks do? Start from scratch? What is the best mounts and rings for this gun?
I did manage to get it zeroed but hate that there are shims in the mix. Very frustrating.

I would look into getting a one piece base. Get about 10 moa or so unless you are planning to get serious long range then get a 20 moa base.

I had a similiar problem and it turned out to be a bent barrel.
I would say shims are not normal and they are used to correct a problem.
