Will the short eye relief (less than 2 inches) of an ACOG be a problem on a flat top AR-10 in .308 ?? This rifle will serve duel purpose of target practice and some deer hunting. I really do not want to mess up my face more than it already is !!
Most of the other hunting scopes that I own have more than 3.5 inches.

Ski, Im gonna ass-u-me you are asking about TA01/TA31 ACOGs? Yes, the ER is pretty shallow but not to the point that your going to look like Col Klink when you fire your weapon. My advice to you is to look into the TA11H ACOG. Its got a bit more ER and the BD is set up for 308WIN/7.62NATO (it also has a horseshoe reticle that is STILL waiting for an in-depth review! ) |

Thanks for the reply. The TTA11H ACOG was what I had in mind. Any idea how well this would work on deer hunting in fairly thick cover? Average shot probably in the 25 - 50 yard range. I sometimes have trouble quickly getting my target lined up through a scope even on low power (3-4X range).

Could it work? Yes, it could. But so could a square tire in the absence of a round one. There are better choice for that one application (hunting) but if you have other plans for your AR...
I'd look into Trijicons AccuPoint 1.25-4X24 w/the German reticle. It may fit better for you (unless your allergic to amber) and lack of ER isnt something owners gripe about .
