I'm having  my Remington CDL SF tuned up and my smith wants to toss the X-Mark trigger and replace it with a Rifle Basix, anyone have experience with Rifle Basix aftermarket triggers?
Thanks,
Sam

Basix triggers are excellent, but there's nothing wrong with a properly adjusted stock Remmy trigger.  What pull weight do you want?  The stock Remmy will safely adjust down to about 2 lbs without problems.  It may not feel quite as clean as a Basix, but it is fully adjustable.

I was under the impression that the sear adjustment could be adjusted. Two screws on the front of the housing, one on the rear. Am I misinformed?

Ted,
I'm looking for a clean crisp 2 3/4 - 3 lbs trigger pull weight. I had never heard of Basix before my smith mentioned it today that is why I was asking.

You are correct, Roy. The triggers are adjustable for weight, over travel and sear engagement.

Only thing I was trying to suggest is having your smith adjust it properly first and if you didn't like it go with the aftermarket. I've never used a RB trigger but some top flight smith's use them so I'm sure they are good. My smith adjusted my pre-X Mark's and they break like glass. Before the adjustment, they felt like crap.

my pre x mark is sweet, they use some sort of nasty epoxy on the sear engagement screw, and i tried everything i could think of to break it and it would not break free. i try burning it with a butane torch i tried to soak it in chemicals i tried all kinds of stuff, wouldnt work, the other two screws came free with very little effort, as did the ones on my "j" lock m7 , ive heard the same story cruising other forums nasty epoxy, people have busted allen wrenches and stripped the screw trying to get it to break free. so yeah the x mark sucks for that reason.

Sam, you can easily get that with your existing trigger just by adjusting it.  However, if you aren't familiar with trigger function, it's best that you err on the side of safety and let your smith adjust it.  It isn't at all difficult, it's just that the consequences of setting it to an unsafe condition are severe.  If you can properly set the sear engagement at the same time you adjust the pull weight to 3 lbs, you can get a very crisp, clean trigger pull without excess creep.

Keep in mind that Remington doesn't want people adjusting the trigger themselves for liability reasons.  They especially don't want anyone adjusting the sear engagement screw, which is why they use the epoxy Pyro is talking about.  On the previous generation trigger, they just used a thread locker type sealant, which broke free pretty easily, but the X-Marks can be difficult to adjust because of the glue from hell they are now using.  If you can adjust the sear engagement, the X Mark can be nearly as crisp and clean as the RB trigger, but overall, the RB is a little better.  I too think the RB is better than a Timney, not as good as a Jewell (but not as expensive as the Jewell either).

Thanks Ted,
I think for a hunting rifle an RB should work, if this were to become a competition rifle than I'd probably go with a Jewell.

Rifle Basix is good to go. Had one on a Remington "Sin"dero and it worked very well.

Yeah I''m excited, in addition to the RB trigger he is also going to glass/pillar bed the action, free float the barrel, re crown the barrel, correct the feed ramp/mag well, lap the action, mount my scope with Talley QD's and check over everything else. I almost had him blueprint the action and install an over sized recoil lug but I thought I'd wait to see how it shoots first. I'm thinking this will be a 300+ yard hunting rifle not a bench rifle, so we will see.

I put a Timney in my long range hunter. I don't know how the RB will compare, but the timney couldn't be any better. I've never seen a better trigger yet. I haven't owned a Jewell yet though. I think the RB will be an improvement over what you have.
