Good glass seems more important and a smaller objective is always a plus if you can get away with it. Exit pupil on a 3-9X40 @ 9X is 4.44. That's really not bad.

I have both a Conquest and Swaro PH and I've got to admit the Swaro is brighter but for the much higher price tag of the Swaro the Conquest is a much better value for your buck IMHO

Thanks, RC. I have been watching the sample list closely. I also recently learned to not delay too long, cause if you want it, it might be GONE pretty quickly. (like in a matter of minutes).

I might have a Zeiss for sale, moving to Swaro, ( if Santa does her job.) Between the 2, money permitting, Swaro is the way to go. if you can't drop the $$, Conquest is a fine scope. FYI: of the several things I have bought fro the sample list, I have been very, very pleased with the result. If you can save a few hundred dollars by getting from the Sample List, it is money well spent. Kahles on the Sample List might be worthy of considration. |

Between your choices, I would go with the Zeiss. I am re-scoping a "traditional" hunting rifle soon and have ALMOST, nearly, probably decided on Zeiss for it. But might go with Swarovski... |

I like the Conquest line, they are a very good value for the quality you get. |

Was that a typo and did you mean 3-9x40? If it's, go for the Zeiss. |

There is a certain "vodoo" that goes into contruction. In english that means the reduction of stray light bouncing inside the scope, creating the equal of background noise in sound. That and better coatings and alignment is where the extra money goes. I lean towards the Zeiss.

JDH,
I had BOTH of these scopes (the Zeiss and Monarch) in my hands TODAY. I walked outside the gun shop with both of them at about 4:50pm CST and the Zeiss had better clarity without a doubt. You should go check them side-by-side, but I did it and the Zeiss won.

So to be more clear, will I get more night shooting out of the Bushnell with the 50mm lens or the Zeiss which is said to have better glass but is only 40mm? If it is a wash i will go with the cheaper Bushnell. Any other factors I am not thinking of?

Hello everyone, so low light shooting is the number one factor and I am wondering whether I would be better off with a Bushnell 4200 or Monarch in a 50mm or go with a better glass like the Zeiss 3-4x 40 conquest or scratch and dent Kahles 3-9x42 American Hunter I saw on the sample list. I am absolutely maxed out at $450. Thanks for your help, this forum has already been extremely useful.
