Okay, so I was lucky enough to receive a RWS 34 for Christmas, and it came with a scope mount and a 4x scope. I've been reading the manual and attempting to get the reticle to focus, but all I seem to be doing is unscrewing the eyepiece (I have no experience with rifle or airgun scopes other than what I've read off the internet). What am I doing wrong?

The eyepiece will have fine thread so it may take several turns. Also be sure to move the lock ring out of the way to be able to move the full range. It is best to be on a blank wall to keep your eye from adjusting to the scope vs the scope to your eye. Only look through the scope for short periods then look away to allow your eye to return to its normal focus as you make your adjustments. Welcome to the OT.

Are you looking at a target or into the sky to focus the reticle? You don't want to be trying to focus on something at close range.
Also, do you wear corrective lenses? Welcome to O.T. |

Wow, fast answers, thanks!. First of all, I've just been looking at stuff in my room and using that to focus, perhaps that's my first problem. It didn't really say what to use as a target in the manual, go figure. And second, yes, I wear glasses - how does that make a difference?

I would go outside and look up in the sky to focus. That just might help.
It has affected the focus on all of my scopes. I wear progressive lenses and if I look through the unmagnified area of them I can't focus some of my scopes. |

You are simply trying to get the reticle in focus.....nothing else. Look at a blank wall or the sky and make a half a turn or so until the reticle is sharp as soon as your eye spots it! If you have to "concentrate" on focusing it with your eye then it's not right yet. Once it is immediately in focus when you pull it up to your eye--then set the lock ring and leave it alone---you're done.

Untill you reach 50. Then it has to be adjusted a little more every year.

Well, I've got it all figured out!
Only problem now is the RWS Lockdown Mount that comes with the scope - the allen wrench loosened 3 of the lugs, but one is either stripped or the allen wrench doesn't fit right, not sure which (I'm not very mechanically inclined). Anyone else experienced this? |

Yes. I call for professional help. I don't have a tool shop. They'll have to tap it out of there. Fun.
