if i'm buying a scope online, how can i find out the distance i can slide it forward or backward?
the elite 4200 2.5x10x40 and the conquest 3x9x40 are my two leading choices.
thanks in advance. |

Are you talking about eye relief, mounting or what?

Mounting, how it will sit on a rifle.

Sullivan: You gotta know the span of your scope mounts, then how much space between the bells on the scope. I'd expect you would have to measure the mounts from on the rifle, and you might get the scope dimensions from the manufacturer. I don't think that there is usually a mounting problem, except maybe with a Compact scope. If you are mounting a scope on an older Rem. 700 you'll probably have to have extended mounts. I'm sure there are other things I haven't heard of. I suggest you post some particulars. Smitty of the North

First you need to know the distance between the rings when mounted on your rifle. Then check the scope model's ring mount spacing on the manufacturers specs.

I think your asking about eye relief. It sould be listed in the scopes spec sheet.

I think he means how much space on the scope tube he has for mounting the scope in the rings, while adjusting back or forward for eye relief.
