    Posted: February/19/2009 at 08:44
Have been in the market for a new scope and seemed to have settled for either the Burris FFII or the Vortex D'Back in the 4.5x12x40 model.

I have heard some issues with the Burris' being tough to adjust in the cold weather and that some have had issues with customer service.  However there have been a lot of praises as well.

The Vortex scopes I have not been around but I have a set of the bins and have been more than pleased with them and the warranty dept.  Though I can't find much on the scopes what I do find in nothing but good.

Any suggestions?

i had a ffII and yes sometimes in cold weather adjusting the power ring is tough. i was fortunate enough to get to play with a vortex diamond back scope for two weeks and i was pretty happy with it, its nothing fancy. it gets the job done though. i like there warranty, and they seem to make nice products for the money in all there product lines.

You may want to try the Vortex. The mass produced Burris FFII is made in the Phillipines. The Vortex warranty is better and is a good value over the FFII.

the only gripe i had with the d'back scope,  and it was a small one at that was that i would prefer a touch more eye relief. 3.5-3.3 inches isnt terrible, the 4200 elite is similar to this as well. like i said that is minor for me, otherwise i was very impressed with it for a sub $200 scope the 3x9x40 was as nice as my nikon buckmaster, and maybe had an edge in clarity. i really liked the reticle the demo model had.

I just can't get used to the eye piece/power ring adjuster and that alone will keep me from owning one.

Thanks for the input.  I see that the Nikon Primos is also within my budget.  Would this be considered a better option than the D'back?

The Team Primos is a good scope.

You should also consider Busnell Elite 3200. It's very good scope for the money and it's with in your price range.

I had a 4200 and did not care for the short eye relief.  I also had trouble picking up the reticle in low light conditions.  Don't get me wrong good glass just wasn't for me.  I got rid of the scope and the search began anew.

I pulled the trigger on the Primos today eagerly awaiting it's arrival.  Thanks for all the input and advise.
