I'll tell y'all about a little rock in the middle of the I.O. called Diego Garcia.  Dec 19th 1986 Myself a about 600 sailors from Battle Group "Charlie" were stuck on that little Atoll for Christmas.  It was 4 dollars a minute (cash on the barrel head) to call back to the states.  I talked to my soon to be wife for 45 min.  Then headed over to a warehouse that held about 200 guys with 350 waiting to hear Loretta Lynn. It was put out that she had injured her ankle in Guam and more that likely was going to be a NO SHOW. I was stuck over on the side of the stage (not a very good seat) and had a good view of the back stage area when Loretta Lynn hobbled in on crutches.  The band and back up singer had warmed up the crowd a it was her time to sing. She dropped the crutches had someone pull off the soft cast and put a shoe on. She was hoppin' all over the back stage area but when she hit the curtain she never missed a beat.  You would have never known she had a messed up ankle. She stayed on stage for over a half hour singing and bringing a little bit of home to a bunch of squids stuck on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean.  I've always had respect for her after that.  Shaina's Fine, but Loretta will always be THE Queen to me.       Man I had to break out the cruise book tonight to reminisce. LOL

Like most of the older stuff the best.  Some of the new stuff is ok.  Like the Statler Brothers and Oak Ridge Boys as well.
To be prepared for War is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.

Waylon - Are You Sure Hank Done It this Way
Willie - Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys
DAC - You Never Even Call Me By My Name
Johnny Cash
George Strait - All
Clint Black - Leaving Here a Better Man
All the older country.
These are all great, but Favorite Group and song is Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn.  Whenever it is on, stops me dead in my tracts.

Chris - you're right,  just can't beat George.  Not the flash that Garth or others had, but man to hear him sing.  Like his movie, Pure Country.

The majority of Pure Country was filmed in Ellis county, Texas where I live.  There is a little honky tonk that still puts a sign up out front from time to time that reads, "Film location of Pure Country".  It's the bar where George got into a fight.

One of the all time greats in my book. I don't know what it is about that song, but I like it.

No kidding. That is cool.  Kind of like the field of dreams ball diamond in Dyserville IA.  I actually played a game of ball there.  You can say you knocked the foam off one in a famous place.

I saw Marshall Tuckers tour bus go past me a couple of months ago on I 85 southbound, right outside of Charlotte. I assume they were heading back home to Greenville, SC.

Great thread, Chris.
