Hi,
I need a decent quality scope that measures 8.25" or less. Lets exclude red dots for now at least.
Want a minimum of 4x magnification, can go up to 12x. My eyes suck.
I'd love to say money is no object, but I just can't these days.
I know a lot of you boys are going to scoff, but all I can afford to shell out right now is $250 max, and hopefully less than that. It's a tall order I know. And please, I don't want to save my money until I have $400 or more to be a scope. I need one now and want to buy one very soon.
It doesn't have to be exquisite glass. I just have to be able to see what I'm shooting and where the bullet will go if everything is done right.
Should I be posting this in tactical and rimfire too, or is that allowed?
Thanks,
Mike

Don't know about that length! Even Leupolds 2.5x20 Ultralight is 8" in OAL.

There is a BURRIS TIMBERLINE scope on SWFA website for $150.00. It is a 4x20mm and is 8.5 inches long. There is also a variable WEAVER CLASSIC V3 1-3X20 for $150.00. Probably the better choice.

It'll be going on the little rifle pictured below.
What you see on it now is a Leapers 6X32AO which is 8.25" long and it and the rifle barely fit in that neat little 20"x18"x7" inch suitcase. I want to continue to use it.
The Leapers is surprisingly good (for me anyway) for paper punching and small game shooting. Nothing like a nice rabbit stew.
My only objection to the Leapers is the crosshairs are like 2"x4"s. This little rifle has already paid for itself courtesy of some unhappy benchrest boys. They just can't stand how well the little rifle shoots.
The usual wager is $25 or $50 that I cannot, at 50yds, get three, two shot one-holers in the 10x ring out of six targets on one paper. (Were y'all able to follow that)? If anyone wants to call BS on that I can post the latest money winning target.
With match ammo and better crosshairs I firmly believe I can tighten it up to 4, 5 or even 6 out of 6, though I don't think I'd take a 6 out of 6 wager. Aw hell, I can here the sceptics now so I'll just save myself some time and post a pic of the latest $50 winning target and then a pic of the rifle.
The bet on this target was that I could not get 3 out of 6. I love this rifle and I really love taking cash from the boys who spend big dollars on benchrest rifles and just don't believe this little $200 Marlin can do what I bet them it can do. Most of these guys use rifle cases that cost a LOT more than my rifle.

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there any way for me to rig up a nice shotgun or pistol scope on this rifle, or am I gonna have to much eye relief with such? I like snuggin' up to my scopes as close as I can.
It helps me watch that little counter-clockwise barrel movement I have never been able to shake and time my trigger pull as the barrel is on the upswing to my target.
If there are any of you out there that find well-heeled benchrest snobs just a big pain in the ass and want to help me lighten their wallets a little, you could sell me one of your used scopes that fit these kinda stringent requirements.
Thanks,
Mike

A shotgun scope will work but a pistol scope needs 14'' or more eye relieve too work.

I wonder what the difference between these scopes is, besides $5. The specs look the same.

The answer is a good rimfire scope in quick disconnect rings.

I hate to tell ya this Mickey, but I don`t think you are going to find any good quality scope going up to 8x, 9x, 10x, or 12x that is only 8" or so long. Looks like you`re going to have to buy a bigger case.
The 2.5x Leupold FX2 is about 8" long. But if your eyes need more magnification, then simply get a little larger case for a larger scope.
To quote the movie "Jaws"...."You`re going to need a bigger boat."........

Mickey,
The shotgun version has a plex reticle with a diamond in the center w/a fine crosshair through it where as the rimfire version has the plex reticle w/a fine crosshair in the center by itself.

+1 on QD rings. Solves a LOT of problems. Either that or remove the stock.
