would be the best bang for the buck?
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 299.00 Sightron SII 6-24x42 $371.00 or Weaver 6-24x42 Classic V24 $326.00 All would have mildots. I will be using it for prairie dogs out to around 600yds. I already have 4200s and a 6500. Just want to try something else for a little less. |

A shooting buddy of mine has that Weaver. It's a pretty good scope with a nice thin target reticle, but it's not in the same class as a SII. The SII is better every way optically. I've shot them back to back shooting p-dogs.

Get the SII. I've had a Weaver 4x16x42 Classic and a 4x12x50 Buckmaster and I didn't keep either one.

It looks like the SII is the way to go. I suspected that would be the outcome.

I owned that exact Buckmaster and traded it off...didn't look back.
I'd go Sightron.

I've got a 6-18X40 Buckmaster...it's decent, but not spectacular. Tracking is good.
I had a Weaver 6-24 Classic. It was okay until 20X..then it got pretty grim. Tracked well.
Neither of these can compete with the SII optics. Or warranty.
Hope this helps. -Al

My SII with a target dot on my .223 is a prairie dog smasher. I've looked through a pal's Prostaff a bunch and it's not even close. I can't comment on that model Weaver because I've never used that particular one, but can't imagine it'll hang with the Sightron for those little rodents.

I own a couple of Weaver V24s with Varmint-Plex reticles and love them. Very clear all the way out to 24x. If somebody had a clarity issue past 20x (not doubting his word) then he had a defective scope.

The Sightron S2 is a better scope. The optics are bright & clear and track very well. The warranty customer service is the best in the business.
