I have a Leupold Mark4 8.5-25x50mm LR/T M1 Illum Reticle on a Savage 12F, the quality i've found is excellent and backed by the lifetime warranty, it's very well made.
On the illumination of the scope there are adjustments 1 to 10 to lower the brightness to suit the conditions.
I always store the scope with the battery out just in case of battery leakage.

(Yes i like Leupolds.)

thanks. thats prolly what im gonna get. i know the b&c ret. is kinda crowded and i didnt know if all that being illuminated would be too distracting. i love my leupolds too. i lost 2 in a recent fire and am trying to figure out what to replace them with.
thanks, Kevin

I would recommend getting the new CDS Custom Dial System that Leupold is putting on their VX3 scopes and I would get it even if you chose the B&C reticle because a balistic reticle only is true at the highest power of the scope.  What happens is as it gets dark you have to dial down the scope power to around 6x with a 40mm objective or 7x with a 50 mm objective to brighten up the scope.  I'm pretty sure the CDS can be put on any model of the VX3 scope, but you may have to call SWFA to place the special order.   The CDS dial is low profile and looks much like the caps on the top of other VX3 scopes but with numbers  1 for 100  2 for 200  3 for 300 and so on and it is engraved for your specific bullet weight and caliber at the elevation  you will be hunitng at.  With this you can use a duplex dial in 6 and the cross hair is centered at 600 yds no guess work or holding over and it works at every power unlike balistic reticles.

so what your saying is you set the dial at say 400yds and the scope compensates for your caliber? is that right?
thanks, Kevin
