This Sat we had another field shoot at a place called Bredasdorp, about 200km east of Cape Town. Conditions were difficult, but judge for yourself:
The gongs are 8 inches in diameter. Note the flags for the wind. The wind gusted and blew on one range from two different directions due to topography at up to 15mph.

Arrival and registration:

First up.... five gongs at unknown distances. I estimated the first two gongs at 325 m at hit them both. Ok I thought, the game is on. The other 3 gongs I put at 230m, 200m and 250m and promptly missed them all !!! So I scored 60/150.

Arrows indicate gongs > The position was sitting with a gumpole as rifle rest.

Next up: Blesbuck at who knows how far and impala a bit closer. Position sitting or lying down, but small wigwam had to be used. I overranged the blesbuck at 350m and still aimed high. 3 shots at the blesbuck. My grouping ende
d up just above the shoulder. Nil points. Then it was two shots at the impala. I called 200 m and grouped the two shots nicely between the eyes. 60 points. Score for this range 60/150.

Then another gong range: 3 gongs at what I ranged 325 m , 250 m and 180m. Then off to the right, not on the picture, a warthog at about 200m. Position: From the back of the parked vehicle in pic.
I missed the first two gongs, hit the third and put two headshots into the warthog.
Score 90/150

Then another gong range. All downhill. One gong again at 300+, three at 250 + and one at 150.
My score, the three closer gongs only 90/150

Next up, a standing position with a wigwam rest. Impala at about 200m. I did 5 body shots in the lung area for 20 points each. 100/150

Lastly we did 50m standing without any aids at a springbuck. I went for headshots and managed 3 out of the 5 for 90/150.

My friends and I did not feel the need to stay for the prizegiving!! Judging by the scores I had seen, I probably ended in the upper half. I will get the placings via e-mail at some stage.
Tough, very tough and clearly I need to stop shooting at paper and get some real shooting practise going!!!!

By the way, all ranges have a limited time. 120 seconds being the longest on the gongs and 45 secs on the off hand standing position.
No rangefinders etc permitted. Guestimating only!!

I think you did admirably Wouter!  Guesstimating distance and gusty winds, I'd be happy with the results!  Agreed, I would want to start practicing in that environment immediately!  Punching paper at a range just gets you started and builds confidence in yourself and your equipment.  You definitely have the ability and equipment, practice is all thats left!

No humble pie my friend, lemon meringue maybe! (bitter sweet)

Good show Wouter! Looked like a tough match. The tough ones are the fun ones. Sounds like you had fun.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Nothing like getting out and shooting at variable-range targets under those conditions. Were competitors allowed to use a ranging reticle, such as mil-dots? Or was it really seat-of-the-pants guessing? I think you did pretty well.
Reaction time is a factor...
