The first scope I ever got was a Tasco 3-9x40. It came with a gun I'd ordered and I could never get it sighted in. I got another brand and put it away. The replacement worked fine.
A long while later I was having trouble with another scope that wouldn't raise high enough vertically (using the elevation knob), so I thought I'd get out the ol' Tasco to see if that had a similar problem before considering getting another scope. I mounted the tasco and fired low, then adjusted UP (in the direction of the arrow), and fired even lower...I adjusted UP even more and fired even LOWER... SO... I started going in the opposite direction, and cranked the knob DOWN. I nailed the vertical, but was shooting left. I cranked left, and shot MORE left. I cranked right, considering what just happened with the vertical...and centered on my target, then drilled it about 10 times at 20 yards in a decent grouping. Anyone seen a scope where the widage and elevation turn directions were BACKWARDS?!?!?! |

I had a cheapo bushnell and Tasco that were like that. They were on .22s. Once I figured it out, I did not care much as I just zeroed them and left it alone. It just goes to show you how much testing or the lack there of goes into those cheapo scopes. lol

I lost a beautiful buck last year to a (borrowed) rifle topped with a Tasco Silver Antler. We call that buck, "Barnes". I call that Tasco Silver Antler something that the filters would blot out if I posted it.
"Barnes been shot seven time and he ain't dead. Does that mean anything to you, huh? Barnes ain't meant to die." |

"I call that Tasco Silver Antler something that the filters would blot out if I posted it." LOL! That's as quotable as the phrase from Platoon you used!
This happened to be a Silver Antler as well. Perhaps they were just made that way? I was thinking I might just flip over the labels, draw my own arrows on the other side. |

The one I used had bassackwards turrets too.
And, be advised: if you zero at a certain power, DO NOT CHANGE THE POWER, else your point of impact changes too. We zeroed the silver antler at 100 yards on 9X and I took a shot on Barnes at 60 yards on 3X - and missed clean. I could'a thrown the damned gun and killed that deer! Point of impact shift was DRAMATIC! There are at least 2 lessons to learn here, and the biggest one is "you get what you pay for." |
