I'm gonna be having me a .17HMR/HM2 NEF Sportster. I was trying to collect suggestions for a sub $110, no lower than 12x at max. anything goes as far as brand. I was quite interested to the BSA 4-16x40 Mil-Dot Riflescope |

The BSA Sweet 17 line of scopes are made specifically for 17 caliber rifles. The BSA scopes utilize a bullet drop cam (located on the elevation adjustment) instead of a hold over reticle like the Burris Ballistic Plex. It takes a little more time to compensate this way but it is just as effective. There is a noticeable optical / mechanical difference between the two as well, hence the considerable price difference. The BSA Sweet 17 scopes are a lot of fun for plinking and informal target shooting. The Burris has the edge for more serious target or low light hunting. Both are great scopes for 17 caliber rifles but they are made to serve two different markets. BSA Sweet 17 2-7x32.....$59.95 BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 A/O.......$89.95 BSA Sweet 17 6-18x40 A/O.....$109.95 comes w/ FREE 15 piece professional boresighter (limited time only)

There optics on the other hand would make me pass on a BSA any day. Find a good servicable scoipe that isn't tied to just one caliber. Burris and nikon come to mind. Leupold and bushnell to.

Actually the optics on the 17 models are the "diamond in the ruff" so to speak. Yeah other BSA models are not very good but the 17's can be considered. With the specifications he is looking for Leupold, Burris, and Nikon would be way out of his $110 price range. I'm still on the sweet 17 boat. |

I neglected to read the part about 110 max. In that case the sweet 17 might not be all that bad. A bushnell banner would be one to look at as well.

I will admit I have never handled the sweet 17 scope but other BSA scopes I have not been impressed with. I'd check out Mueller scopes, they make a very nice 3-9x40mm that is great a little more money at about $150 but great glass for an awsome price. I put a Mueller on my .17 although a much bigger scope at 4-16 x50mm and cant say enough good things about the optical quality especially for the money.
Another scope that you might want to look at for the .17 is a Swift Premier in either 3-9 or the 4-12. The scopes are very bright and clear many people I know that shoot rim fire love these scopes.
Lastly I belong to a rimfire forum and one of the scopes tha alot of people say is a great buy (although discontinued but some still floating around out there) is the Simmons ATV. I am not a Simmons fan BUT I got this scope for my father on closeout for like $80.00 and I was totally impressed with it for the money.

well i grabbed a BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 and it now sits atop a NEF Sportster. It's a good chunk of metal and everything is solid and smooth. It blurred at 100yrds but then i realized the AO was still at 50yrds
