This is the son of a friend of mine.  He took it on a farm in Kansas that a friend of mine and his wife moved to this summer.  Rough scores 186 B+C.  A bow kill.

Sgt. D, where I live the deer herd is small.  We get one deer with firearm and one with bow.  NH fish and game pats themselves on the back for bringing the turkey population up, but the deer management is terrible here.  My wife has hit a turkey, I have had them fly into my car, you have to stop and wait for the flock to cross the road etc. etc.  I wish they worked as hard on their deer management skills.  I know hunters that go a whole season without seeing deer.  Some sections are buck only and most allow doe for 1 day or 3 days.  We have liberals from Mass and Conn moving in and posting great hunting land.  Sorry for my rant.  I get upset with this issue.  Someday I am going to take a hunting vacation in a different state.

Since South Africa started gamefarming we no longer have a shortage of game. The downside is that there is a lot of fences to contend with. On the bigger farms however one can hunt all day long and never see a fence.

We do also have some unfenced hunting. On these farms it can be a bit pot luck. On the badly managed open farms a hunter can spend all day walking and still see no game.

It ALWAYS pays to practice resource management!
Couple yeas ago, Pennsylvania changed the way they managed deer.  It caused a lot of up roar among hunters.  They increased Doe harvest and restricted Buck harvest.  Tighten requirements on what is a shootable buck too.  We're starting to see the effect in more and bigger bucks. Taking more doe's has helped thin the herds and reduced crop damage.  We still have overpopulation issues in state parks and believe it or not suburban Philadelphia.
Because of housing denstiny Philly area is restricted to bow and shotgun.  They are literally giving away extra tags in effort to reduce deer population.  Last year a guy took a B&C 212 off a 5 acre lot surrounded by homes.

Nice Buck he got there Earl, Im not even sure how big they get around here. If they get 225 then its rare... We have lots of deer here too but not as many as Buds place. My wife and I saw 3 Bucks last weekend, they were in the rut , necks were swollen. I would have shot any of em had it been season, one was a really nice 4 point.
Bud Im on my way over to help ya thin em outWink

You guys make me blush.Embarrased You mean there are guys that don't hold doors! Actually I think of all you guys as younger than me. Is that part of getting older? As far as gettin well and back to living again. My motivation is my Dad. If I can be half the man he was I can be proud. In his late 60's he was out workin his help. I had a good life thanks to him and he was a excellant example of a real man and gentlemen. Thanks for your kind thoughts.

For those of you (my friends) I have a request. If you are a person who smokes I hope I can give you reason to stop. Most of us (I think) feel that if we can get our kids grown and on their own. Then we can do as we like. For the most part I agree, but More often than not smokin is going to have its day. I am convinced that smokin took 20yrs from my Dad. Why? because all his family lived to their 90's. I can tell you as one who knows. Even if your kids are in their 40's+ they still need their Mom and Dad. I never gave much thought of the day he might be gone, but I had no idea how much I depended on him until he was gone. The knowledge, experience, wisdom and love you provide your kids fills more of their lives than either of you may know. Do what you can to be with them as long as possible.

Billy I feel for ya! And I think the further North you are the worse it is gonna get. You have every reason to rant. Its easy to find fault just about anywhere you go, but when people are losing rights or privelige due to special interest or blantant greed then its time to make some noise. If you could find some ways to get media attention on their poor managment it usually gets results. Balance is vital with all species and to over populate turkey can be just as irresponsible as under managing other animals. Yes, pat them on the back for a successful program, but they can't stay there. Wildlife managment is full spectrum. Maybe you can get their attention that it is past time to focus on something else.
Ofcourse the easy thing is to hunt somewhere else until they get it together. Wish things were better. Do the best you can. Good Luck!
